So, I have a yz250f and am likely going to buy a new 250f next year. it will either be a crf or yzf. i find this is a hard choice. when someone buys the crf will they please post on here how it handles, runs ect. and if it is better than the yzf.
thanks

Yeah, you and everyone else. If you can believe what you read on TT then the CRF250 won't even be here until November at the earliest. Meanwhile the '04 YZs are starting to roll in. Honda may or may not be building a badass bike, but they've already lost so many potential sales (like about 4 years worth) to Yamaha that it's a catch-up game from here on out.

Personally, I have a feeling that the CRF will probably weigh right about the same as the '04 YZ, will have less engine braking, and less low end torque. (Whey else would they be putting a 51T sprocket on it at the factory?) I also predict there will be a few annoying bugs in the design that buyers will have to deal with. Hopefully if it is anything serious then Honda will step up and fix it.

Those are all just my personal hunches, but we will see when the bikes get here. (Assuming they ever DO get here.)

and i rode a 06 yz250f and a 06 crf250r the same day at my neighbor's private track (he owns them both) and they were both bone stock and the yzf has a more mellow powerband and handling sucks. the honda has more low-end torque and some decent mid, but the top-end isn't too great.....the yzf doesn't particularly stand out anywhere in it's powerband...that's why i bought the crf becuase i loved it's power right off the start.

rode yami's all my life and now hondas this year. fit and finish is better. handling is way better, i havent messed with anything to try and get better handling something i couldnt say with yamaha. reliability is a little down vs. yamaha but maintain and it should be fine. feel is in a more natural position.

all this is imo. and i have ridden the 06 yami's and liked them, just not as much as my hondas. but the new yamahas have serious potential with some suspension work and some different clamps for better handling.

Something called bike setup. You might want to try it sometime.

whats that supposed to mean? bar/lever position affects steering now :p
hondas do turn way better stock, only aftermarket parts can fix that, and id rather not HAVE to put them on to make a bike turn well

Heck ya, it affects it affects turning. If you run your levers straight down and move your handlebar 1 inch to the right the bike will turn sssoooo good. I became a pro JUST after doing that. It is unbeilveable how much it helps it also makes the bike go bbrrAAAPPP easier. No but seriouly you should try it. I am alot faster after doing it.

But I meant suspension setup. Like run about 96-98mm sag, move the forks up 5-8mm, then adjust your clickers, and get your correct spring rate. Then your bike will turn good. And even better after you get a good revalve.
