Rad sizes on a 2004 450

Recommended Posts

Hi all I bought a set of rad guards the other day and they don't fit the sell has seen the photos I have sent and claims that guards are right and my bike must be wrong can any one tell me how long the rads are on the 2004 WR450 and what the distance is between the lugs on the side of the rads. My plastics mount fine and I cant belive they are wrong for the bike .Oh and yes I know I should have bought unabike guards but I asked twice if they posted to the Uk but never got a reply.

They were made by SMS-SWIVERLAS METAL SOLUTIONS they sell on ebay for £40.00 . They do look like they have been cut out by a monkey with a blunt spoon. The bit that got to me was the seller it was a case of your bike is wrong my guards are right send them back at your cost and I will refund the price you paid.

They look like a knock off of a Devol style guard. I put Devols on my bike and they had angled "spacer brackets" that bolted to where the rad shroud bolts to the rad, the rad shrouds in turn bolted to the other end of the bracket.

At first I was like "WTH?" then I looked at the supplied hardware and saw what was going on.

Also they won't line up very well with bent rads in my experience. From the looks of the epoxy and the dent in the tube your ready for a freshie. (The cheap fleabay rads are strong but the fitment is poor, be prepared to modify them)

They do have a back brace that beef's up the protection , the seller has a very good track record and makes kit for cars and bikes .It's a shame if it had fitted it would have been fine .

There are only a few guards for sale in the UK so it's a bit limited. I might have another look an see if i can mod them to fit .

Yeah, the devols have the back brace too.

The upper holes on the rad are no longer needed as they are just a mounting point for the OEM plastic ones. You could cut those ears right off the rads if there is an issue there.

Good idea there that might work, just feels wrong to cut the rads to fit the guards.
