Can anybody shed light on the difference of TDI and CDI ignition? Looking to get a 2010 or 2011. I have an eye on a 2010 with an hour or so for $4800.

I meant TCI which is what a 2010 has and the 2011 has CDI.

Looks to me that the only difference is TCI has no external coil.

Might be more efficient, due to less wiring? Idk at all though. Haha

That is all.

The two ignition types shown are NOT the "same except for wiring", and both have an external coil, whether it's separately mounted or coil over plug.

But the point you are both missing here is the one made by Todd: the 2010 and the 2011 have THE SAME IGNITION SYSTEM: ECU PN 33D-8591A-00-00 and all the same components on both bikes. Not sure where the idea came from that they were any different.

The Yamaha specs from the website say so.

I'd have to say that the spec sheet for one year or other was misprinted, then.

Both bikes having the same ECU pretty much eliminates any other possibility.
