2000 WR400F Rebuild - Process Pictures.

Hey LivetoShred,

Super cool of you to rebuild your friends bike in his honor.

I have the same bike, mine's plated in AZ, but I live in SoCal right now. Mine's sat for about 4 years and so I'm slowly starting to dig into the similar rebuild process your deep into.

I'm actually debating on the carb issue: ditch the stock '99 or find a '03- fcr3. Thought I was about to get a '03 YZ450F carb on ebay for 30 bux, someone outbid me at midnight for 34.00. BUMMER!!!!

I'm stoked to see your project come along, I'll let you know with pics if my rebuild comes anywhere near the extent yours is.

btw - How much for the frame and subframe to be PC in Inland Empire? And Wheels?

Well last weekend I did a complete tear down, rebuild of the forks. New bushings, seals, oil, etc. found some light corosion but nothing a wire brush couldn't solve.:ride:

I need to do wheel bearings front and back, (probably get off ebay), steering column and swing arm.?

I'm also in the process of hunting down an alum. subframe, airbox, and plastics to make the '03-'05 body kit conversion. but that's more so for fashion and the ease of finding newer graphics, not neccessarily performance. (WR400/YZ400 graphics are quickly being erased from existence!!!!?)

If I find those materials soon, I'll tear down and PC the frame. If I find a decent carb soon, I'll slap it on an get riding again - leave the big tear down and powdercoat project for next winter.

Any chance I can get the same deal on the PC job?? I'm up in Wrightwood.

btw - Are those the stock triple clamps that you had powdercoated or are those aftermarket black?

IMO there are only a few bikes that are worth total restoration..yours is one. My buddy did his after it blew up in the mid to late 20k's. It was the last ride before he was going to rebuild it and it let go. Bummer.

He asked me if he was being stupid putting in over 2 grand on a decade old bike. All he used it for was mild trail riding, and it seemed to get about 50mpg, so I told him why not! Basically he got a new bike for 2k.

Wow man, what a undertaking that must be, but what a cause. That's really cool of the PC guys too hook you up. Keep it up, I look forward to your progress!

Thanks very much man. There have been a few rough moments taking it apart knowing that he was the last person to touch this bolt and stuff like that but I know he'd be stoked on this one...

Thanks very much! I battled with the decision for a few months but once I started looking into the build and how badass these WR's are, it made the decision very easy.

I can't wait to get this thing done and back on the ground, a few more boxes of parts came in over the weekend so some good progress should be seen this upcoming couple of weeks!

Just wondering. Why did you go with a tank the puts the weight up high rather than down low?

I have had great experiences with IMS and seeing as they were willing to accommodate my one-off request, it was an easy decision.

In addition, I have an IMS tank on my 450 and have had no complaints in 2 years.
