2000 WR400F Rebuild - Process Pictures.

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Been a long time lurker and first or second time poster.

The bike was a best friends who passed back in 2008. The bike was given to me by his father. as all me and his son did was ride. It has sat for a couple years and finally, I pulled it out, dusted it off and started this Memorial build for Robert "Big Sexy" Kennedy.

The motor was just rebuilt by Jeff at Temecula Cycles with a new piston, rings, adjusted valves, new water pump seal and a quick run through the carb. It would fire up but only with the choke on so I know the carb is going to need some loving once the build is done.

Here are some pic's of the process thus far. I have spent about 4 days on it to get it torn down. There are some big plans for this bike and I'm hoping that by the time it's completed, it will be one of a kind.

Hey, whats your plans for this rebuild? Full respray, every bearing replaced, No expense spared???

The latter method for the most part. Everything is getting powdercoated in one way or another and by the time this is done, i'm hoping to obtain some help on how to plate it in the lovely state of California so I can putt it around on the streets.

My main purpose of this build is to bring it back to life for my fallen friend...

Junk the stock carb and get a take off from an 03-06 WR/YZ450. It runs much better and no worries (supposedly) about sucking in the slide vacuum plate and trashing the engine.

Have you done this? I have done a bunch of reading and research about jetting and the setup on this bike so when it gets to that point, I have a good starting point. I have read good things about the JD Jetting kit but am open to options.

I am kinda a fickler about my 4 strokes running their best. My YZ450F took a few weeks to get dialed but now it runs amazing. No popping on deceleration, no lag on the get-go and idle's like a champ. I am optimistic about getting the same results with the WR.

Hi Livetoshred...

The Wr450F is thursty on fuel and i have had a flat spot with no luck 2 bikes shops to solve the problem..

Try these specs of a Wr450F carby expert tuner..

I am following these specs to the letter to hopefully solve the problem..

Just to bare in mind using the 450f carby!!! ?

adjustable Acc power pump,

adjustable fuel/mix screw..

As above jetting specs...

If I decide to go this route and trash the WR400F carb, where would be a reasonable place to score a WR450F carb?
