Hey All,

As someone whose always on the lookout for a good deal on a neglected machine, it's been a problem in the past to figure out if a bike is stolen or not, especially a dirt bike or dual sport that may or may not be sold with a current title, without spending money at a very early stage in the buying process.

As dropping $25 for a check on a bike that you may only be paying $200 for seemed excessive, a free check at the point of purchase is what's needed.

Enter the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB.org).

They have a free VIN checker here that will also take older non-17 digit VINs and let you know if that little bargain is hot or was a write-off. It's not the same as a full VIN check, but at least you can find out enough to decide if you walk from the seller before wasting too much time.
