Finally have the new cam in and low gears feel WAY too low. Going to look for the 14T sprocket again. Runs good.

Looiking forward to a full on review Dwight. Have you ridden the bike with the rpm cam lately or just a month or two back?

Seems that Powroll had changed the RPM cam profile without changing the part number. The current RPM cam can't be made to work. No low end at all. All top end. I mean it ! I got a MegaCycle Torque Cam now.

Thanks for the update. Interesting because I subjectively discounted the Powroll RPM cam as too radical for recreational woods riding, but first hand experience is much more objective than my call. I did consider the P1214N Track cam but ended up running an early P714 Track cam that I had, and then the Torque cam. Compared to the the Torque cam the P714 was softer on the bottom, probably from its 10 degree later inlet closing.

OK, I raced the XR218R this weekend. SERA H/S in the A45+ class. Stock gearing. one up on the Pilot jet. and a 115 main. Runs great. I got the hole shot and lead the class for 3 laps. Got passed by a Honda CRF250R with big bore kit on the MX track. I held on to 2nd even after some idiot landed on me after a double jump. Breaking my rear fender and left number plate, and Helmet visor. I had trouble starting the flooded bike but once going I finish to second place. Not too bad for first outing. OH, I also have to replace clutch. Slipping now that it has so much torque. The bike revs to a resonable level too. I'm pleased.

Congrats on the finish and thanks for the update.

My clutch experience and how I feel about my 218 with the torque cam. (my Vapor has recorded RPM above 9000)

My stock clutch with 0.060" washers under the springs is adequate unless the clutch is used with the throttle on, then it quickly overheats and slips. I have a set of EBC frictions that I'm going to tray next and I'll add shims until I get clutch drag from coil bind, and then reduce the shim pack a bit. You can lengthen the engine clutch arm by 3/4 to cut the lever pull in half, and then added a MSR Raptor at the easy pull setting, work great so I think a 1" extension with a stock lever would work for a very light pull (but not as light as the hydraulic clutch on my Montesa). (The Montesa uses a CR125/250 clutch.) I also thought about drilling oil holes in the clutch center to increase oil flow to the discs. Next step is to add an extra friction and disc for more area, might need a CR230 basket to accommodate the extra discs. One last option is to change the primary drive ratio to the CRF230 to reduce torque to the clutch.

Yea ! Just put new plastic on my bike. Replacing that which was broken from the H/S crash. Side covers, Rear Fender, Tail light, and replaced clutch and clutch springs. Put in Barrnett plates & springs, this time.

Dwight,

Would love to get an update on the Barnett Clutch?

Thanks,

On a related note...

I am still stuck limbo with the good folks at Powroll. They have had my crank since just after the first of the year. Back in early Jan, Nicole said if I got it there before next Tuesday I would make "the next XR200 batch" scheduled for later that week and have the crank shipped out early the following week in time for AHMRA / Gatorback. I sent if off and paid the extra freight. Nicole called and said she received it and then the phones and email went dead. I haven’t heard a word from them after multiple calls and emails. Missed Gatorback and no losing hope for Dimaond Dons...

How do I get them to call me back other than the hundreds of calls Dwight did?

I seem to recall someone posted a shop phone number at one time - did anyone try that - was it effective? Can someone forward that number to me?

I am scratching my head on this one...if anyone has a suggestion - I am listening

Found a 45T rear sprocket for the XR200R (218cc) at Parts Unlimited. JT part # JTR245245. About $35. Not in catalog but in stock. Your local dealer can get one if he uses that part number.
So far it feels much better than stock 13 / 47. I tried 14 / 47 but first 3 gears felt good but last 3 were spaced out too wide. Can't wait to try it out next weekend.

The 45T rear sprocket works great. Just the ticket to take advantage of the increased torque without getting boggy off corners.
I think this bike handles great and the modified 87 suspension is perfect. Don't see any reason to replace the forks or get disc brakes on this baby. This bike is competitive in Modern cross country races as well as legal for AHRMA Cross Country.

Is PowRoll still in business ?? I sure hate to think that Pete would let it go under even if he sold it to his kids. Bet they haven't paid for the business.

I stopped by and visited Pete today on my way north, and all is well.

What was your experience with the Torque cam?

WOW, real trip into the Boondocks of Idaho! HA!HA! I looked it up on Google Maps and it is a bit remote!

All is well wouldn't mean that they are caught up on all of their orders would it?

Good to hear. So far I like the Torque cam (Megacycle). Revs good and has good power. Not a lot better than the stock cam but noticable. The whole package works well together. I want to adjust the valves. They were adjusted at the shop to Megacycle specs and I was told by Chuck Elam in Ala. to adjust to .004 thou. I think they are adjusted to .006 right now. That should give it more top end and reduce the kickstarter pressure just a tad.
What did Pete have to say about the problems with getting parts and service from PowRoll ? Why won't they answer the phone or emails ?

Chuck,

I wish I knew you were stopping by...

I had done a lot of research and reading up on the bunch up at Powroll and from what I could see the seemed to be getting back on-track with acting like a real business. Unfortunately I don’t believe that is the case and I would have asked you to share a few words for me.

I sent my crank in to Nicole on Jan 12th and since then, nothing but silence via email or phone.

That is a deplorable way to run any business, especially one where we their customers are spending our disposable income to participate in a hobby that we love. And they treat us as second class or worse. I have missed the whole first half of the AHMRA season so far and I don’t know if I will ever get my crank back - stroked or not.

EVERYTHING IS NOT WELL AT POWROLL.

Another unhappy Powroll customer
