Greetings,
I am from the Virginia Tech Formula SAE team and we are currently troubleshooting our 2004 WR450 engine. We didn't have any issues while dyno tuning however upon trying to start the engine once it was installed in the car we ran into issue with intake backfires that we hadn't seen in the dyno. The engine also kept getting stuck on the compression stroke as if the auto decompress wasn't working.

The attached photo is of our cams and we are wondering if there is a chance that one of them has slipped as the lobes appear to not be 180 deg from each other. Please let me know your opinions.

The valve may be hitting the piston.
Looks like the cam sprocket may have slipped on the camshaft.

On the opposite side w/ the gears, the two dots one on each gear should be facing each other to the flat surface where the valve cover rests. You will need to turn the crank down by the stator (take out the threaded plugs) to line up the timing marks to get the piston to TDC.
