As far as CR bikes go, I have only had a 2004 CRF250R and a 1997 CR125. I like the 1997 more. The CRF was a good handling bike, but the CR handles even better. The CRF had more bottom end power which was good, but it weighed more and was more difficult to maneuver. The CR flicks around and is an absolute blast to ride. From what I've read, 96-97 were the best engines. I know mine isn't lacking in power. I weigh 190 before gear and it pulls me just fine….B level rider.

I always heard that the 04 was the least desired of the 02-07 125's. Something with its electronic powervalve made it a little lack luster.

If I can offer you a little advice. Anyone that has "heard" or "read" about which bike is good or not, take their opinion with a grain of salt. I would, more so, value the opinion of someone who has actual experience and seat time with a certain bike. We can all read what someone else said they read or heard. If we all had the same bike (year & model), I bet most of us would each have something different to say about it.

the 2007 cr was the last year honda made it and they must not have put much time into advancing the motor it has no bottom (talking stock) it was light but the engine wasnt there kcdavis is right but it was rated by professional riders the worst bike of 07' and yea your not gonna ride as hard but still... the worst bike of the year ???

Well, now that you have qualified your statement a bit, I might have a semi educated opinion. You can take this for what it is worth (see kcdavis post), but IMO, get the 05-07 unless you can't afford it. First thing, the 02-07 bikes basicly all have the same frame, the newer models will have more updated suspension. Some of the earlier of those years had a thin exhaust bridge and you could not put as big of a big bore kit on them due to it. the 05-07 years will allow for a 144cc big bore kit and since everyone's complaint about the 125 is lack of low end power, the best way to solve that is with the biggest big bore kit you can put on it. Anyway, just my opinion.

I would have to say the 1997 engine mated to an 01 or newer chassis would be the bomb!

Correct me if i'm wrong, but 04 was pretty much the same as 05-07. A couple of minor changes, but no reason to avoid the 04.
