New guy checking in!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, another new guy here! I've been actively riding streetbikes for five years now and 20 years ago I spent some time on two strokes but haven't touched them since.

A buddy decided to sell his 2004 WR450F so he could get a new street bike and I snapped it up!

It's got most of the free mods done, I need to replace the rear spring to match my weight but otherwise it feels pretty good!

Learned a good bit simply by scanning around here and look forward to learning more along the way!

And here's what she looks like.

Nice... don't forget to change the front springs too. The back probably feels too low. but if you change that spring only, the front will feel too low and your front end will push when you turn.

I know... this happened to me. Keep the bike balanced and order both sets.

Btw... great looking bike. I absolutely LOVE my wr.

Thanks! One of the things I'm wondering about are the front springs. It's been through a few owners so tracking down the real answer probably won't happen but the front feels very stiff, nearly as stiff as my streetbike. I wonder if the fronts haven't been changed out. It plunges smoothly so I doubt a fork is bent.

I've figured out what rear spring racetech says I need, what I'm planning on doing is setting the damping back to stock then checking my sag numbers. Hopefully from there I'll get an idea on what I can get away with on the front until I can get known springs. I'm sure it's due for a fluid change also.

It's going to be a fun ride! Hopefully hitting my first trails this weekend.

Have fun with it. Its been my experience that I could never get away with just changing the back. But I'm 210lbs without gear. (too much Carl's Jr). Then I strap on about 25-30lbs of gear including water and tools.

You'll know more about the bike after your first couple of rides. Figuring out things by the seat of the pants measurements is 90% of the fun.

Regarding the springs... the guys making the springs rarely if ever mark them. You never know what you got in there. You'll have to buy another one to be sure. Its a scam! I get out my dremel and mark my fork springs.
