WR450 Feul injection?

Recommended Posts

well we all know that the yz has fuel injection now but when will the wr get it? does anyone have any inside knowledge? im looking to build up one into a supermoto and i think that fuel injection would be a good feature to have because of how nice it is on my WR250X.

anyway any info would be awesome.

thanks

Sam

yeah the only reason why the carb my be better would be how easy they are to work with and simplicity. but thats about all i can think of. i came from sea level with my bike to about 5000 ft and it still runs fairly well without any adjustments to the comp.

Looking at that new yz... I just don't really see where they put the bigger gas tank (3 gal) or have room for the other stuff.

I'm almost of the opinion that they will need to redesign a few things to make it work. But lets face it, you really wouldn't buy a new WR just for the fuel injection, would you? It takes me 15 -20 mins to change out the jets on my 05 wr. I only change them a couple times per year when I ride up in the higher elevations.

other than FI, what else can they add to the wr? The bike is pretty good as it is.

That would be nice.

I wouldn't buy a new WR just for the FI, but when I am ready to buy another bike in a few years I can't see be buying anything without FI so if the WR doesn't have it I may go elsewhere.

I went from my third WR to a Husaberg for the sixth gear, good forks, and EFI!!!

That makes sense. If my bike wr blows up (doubt it), I will probably not even have a wr on my short list because it lacks some features of the bikes with newer engineering. Too bad my wr will probably never blow up.

I agree. Plus FI puts more weight on an already porky bike.

BUT, how in the heck can you change jetting in 15-20 minutes! I set it and left it alone..I think I'd rather slit my throat then mess with that again..you must be a carnie:

Small hands:smirk:

I would take a 6th gear though even WITH extra weight!!

Its easy on my 05 (steel frame). Loosen the airbox (1 screw) and pull it back . Loosen the clamp on the front of the carb. Pull a little slack in the hoses and then pull the carb back and twist it. so that the top of carb goes to the right and the bottom goes to the left. Then lay the bike down on its right side and you can get to the float bowl and change the jets. Then stand it up and get the carb back on. I find it easier to put the airbox boot on the carb first.

I change my jets twice a year when I go to higher elevations. Other than that, I leave it alone.

I wouldn't hold my breath, I don't think they designed the engine to adapt e-start at all. IMS makes 2.4gl tank so there is a way to get some extra fuel capacity. The RMX450 is FI but it pops and stalls worse than a carb ? I love my Berg, f'in sweet!

i have never found a place that a carb is superior, ever.

How about horsepower? Or top end power? Or the ability to tune without spending boatloads of money on an EFI tuner. Lets face it EFI is better because we think its better but they both have ups and downs.
