No. Some people claim they do, but they DO NOT. They make speedway tires that look simular to a trials tire, but they are worlds apart. The speedway tire is very stiff, with a very hard tread. I bought one, never bothered mounting it, and gave it away.

There is a guy local to me that works with a Taiwanese comapny called Vee Rubber. He got them to design a 19" trials tire, and most guys I know who run them love them. It's a true trials tire, not a speedway one. that is the only one I've seen though.

The cost of the tires themselves is pretty similar. You just buy a whole lot less of them.

I've settled on the MT43 simply because is has the best chance of limping you back to the truck if you get a flat. It also has excellent rim protection, it DOT approved too if that matters. The other trials tires are nasty at once when flat.

I rode an MT43 for ten days in Utah, death for at least one knobby. Then I did a hare scramble, a few trail rides and finally an enduro where I finished on the box in the A class. Questions? :rant:

They still work really well when they look pretty worn. They eventually lose braking performance.

Two years ago when I was looking everyone was recommending the 19" speedway tire as a trials tire. Turns out no one every actually tried it. I bought a used (but never used) one, and it was far from a trials tire. I continued to search far and wide for one for a 19" rim, but never found anything but those speedway tires.

My group and I ride Idaho single track. We constantly debate the trials tires. Here is the consensus from 10 guys some haters and some lovers. We'll say Michelin trials vs. IRC M5B and other soft terrain to intermediate tires.

-Trials are not as good in mud.

-Not as good in snow.

-Not good for brake sliding around corners. The bike tends to stand up instead of the lean/slide.

-Fast guys don't like them.

-Seem to do surprisingly well in the sand... This doesn't seem right looking at the tread but they do just fine...

-Eerie on pavement, sidewalls wallow like crazy.

-INCREDIBLE on dry dirt, moist dirt, rocks big and small...So easy to wheelie over when you are expecting spin. Makes it hard to clutch and spin up the tire, seriously crazy grip. These things will make you look like an Erzberg champion when the going gets tough. They are like cheating.

-They are easier to pinch flat (with equal psi) AND easier to put new tubes in. No spoons required on a well worn trials. We run them between 8-16 psi depending on conditions. Trials guys run them even lower....

-Many claim that the grip is best between 400 and 1200 miles, they need to break in. Even after the knobs start to come off they still do really well.

-Yes 1200 miles. One of the guys we ride with logs every ride and has got the most durability out of the Michelin. Usually 1200 miles.

-They cost twice as much but last up to 3 times as long.

Personally. I don't like them. Mostly the way they corner and the way they look. But the traction is undeniable. You have to try one. We usually get the tubeless because the sidewall is stiffer. We still but tubes in them of course, usually the heavy duty.

anyone find out how to purchase one of the 19" rear itre's cause i called their american location and the guy i talked to couldn't tell me how to purchase on ? maybe i'm missing something but if anyone could make this simple for me i would be thankful

No luck here either. I've found about 20 places that sell all the other sizes of the Vee Rubber, but no one lists the 19" rear. I haven't picked up the phone to any of them yet though.

You can call Gary Lattimer at Race Tools in Brockport, NY. He is a distributor for Vee and sells the Vee Rubber VRM308R which is the 19 inch trials tire.

He can be reached at (585) 431-0036. I'm not sure how many he has but if he does have them, he can ship to anywhere in the country I am pretty sure.

Why bother with 19" TT? Without the added sidewall of the 18" you will be very prone to pinch flats and not able to run the lower pressures where thr trials tires shine. Maybe they made stiff to acomodate for running lower pressures but I doubt it, sounds like a bandaid for being to cheap and or lazy to lace up a 18".

I personally do not like them. They do not like to be rode aggresive. They do not brake Or corner well. But I will admit they climb nasty trail better then any tire out there.

Because you dont' want to spend $200 on a wheel, hours lacing it, and then the money on a tire when you can just buy a 19" trials tire and put it on a existing functional wheel.

I know guys who use them and they LOVE them. on 19 inch wheels too.

I would have to say the place where the trials tire really shines is on roots (and rocks of course) --but slippery roots like we have here in the single track in NC are nasty --and the trials tire grips them and goes right over them --you don't have to have as much momentum as you do with the knobby.

Where in NC are you riding? Brown Mountain about killed me on my DRZ400 with regular knobbies, those roots were tossing me like I was trying to cross wet railroad tracks at an angle. Do you also run a trials tire on the front? My front end was giving me more fits than the rear.

Well, a true trials tire does have its disadvantages.

Any ideas what caused this? Do you think it's from a pinch? Manufacturing defect? There looks to be a slight discoloration on the grooves of the "P" on each side of the hole, kinda looks like it may have been melted?

still the hot tip is to get a used 18" wheel and use a trials tire on that to get more side wall.........

General consensus on the Shinko is that it's far from a trials tire. Also, users are claiming the Vee Rubber 19" is similar in performance and compound to the Dunlops, and that the Vee Rubber has a very high profile, making it much taller than a "normal" 19" tire, giving sidewall height close to that of a 18" trials tire.
