The 2011 engines were fine from what I heard just wait for 2012 snowmobiles though

I rode one (2011) on a demo ride a few weekends ago and it was the best sled I ever rode. They also had pro-r 800s and a couple 2012 switchback adventure 600s. The assault was the best out of the bunch.

They are super fun to ride.
Polaris reliability is a relative thing. I ride their snowmobiles because Honda doesn't make any, and Yamaha is too heavy.
Polaris quit making watercraft because they couldn't figure out reliability.
Polaris sportsman quads ride nice but are pretty lousy statistically with reliability. Their committment to quality and taking care of customers is still dissapointing, but if you buy that sled, chances are that you will love it.
There are no clearly better choices.

I spent 3 days of the last week riding an 09 Assault and took a spin on a new Pro RMK.
First the Assault suspension package is absolutely the best stock suspension package I've ever ridden. That and the new Pro Ride chassis sleds use what is basically a Holz Alpha-X skid. I've been running a Holz skid in my sled for 5 years now and have been completely pleased with it.
Now the Pro RMK was hands down the most nimble and flickable sled I've ever ridden, feels light as a feather with awesome maneuverability and good power for a bone stock setup (and this sled was a 163" track version)
Now combine that chassis with the suspension calibrations of the Assault and I think you have a clear winner. In fact so much so that I'm thinking about selling or parting out my Turbo RMK and snow checking a 2012 Assault RMK.
