Oil/Ratio? Castor 927 still good?

Recommended Posts

Amsoil is good and I would use it if I had easy access to it. Not crazy about the Castor. I prefer a synthetic ester, burns cleaner and doesn't gum up the PV.

I run Motul 710 synthetic.

g, whats the dif between 710 & 800?

op, a syn (any) is going to be cleaner and lube better in all conditiond (start up,weather....) but the dino oils are fine to use.

Although it may be old tech 927 is still good oil. I've been using Amsoil for the last 10 years but still like the smell of the 927. The 32/1 is a little heavy. Most KTMers run their at 40/1 to 60/1. Amsoil make a 100/1 oil with a written guarantee. I just haven't had the ball to ues it...

+1. I also have been running Amsoil for along time with no issues. 32:1 seems really rich to me and the KTM smokers I have owned/own really seem to run clean around 44:1 to 50:1 ratio's depending on the climate.

I had to use some 927 a bud gave me when I ran out of my Motul. I also had to mix some of it with my Motul one time just to ride. The oils didn't mix in the ratio rite and the 927 is very thick and gummy compared to the 710. I also don't like that it is hard to tell it's mixed due to it's natural/honey color. When I ran just the 927, my bike spooged bad. I guess I needed to rejet for it. ?

I run castor 927 in my 08 250sx. The previous owner ran it at 32:1 and i was going to change it to 40:1 but i've stayed with the 32:1. The bike runs awesome. No sponge and the bike doesn't smoke hardly at all after its warmed up

I ran 927 in mr CR exclusively for years! Loved it cause it smells great! The best!

My bike started loosing power after years and it took a long time to find the problem. In the end it was because there was so much carbon in the silencer pipe it choked it down! When I did the top end the piston was clean and looked new! Very little carbon on the top, but the exhaust valves were seized and looked like chunks of coal! I had to chizle the carbon of them to find them again.

I have a new 2011 300XC :banana:and I will be running super M, Its cheap synthetic and good oil! But it wont smell like heaven!

if your jetting is set for 32:1 it will run fine with the right oil

my 300 seem to love 50-60:1 with motul 800. That premix is soo thick and it blend so well with gas i have nothing to say except that the bike have a hard time burning the oil when cold , 40 sec into the ride and it is warm enought to cleanly burn it.

I read somewhere (can't remember where so don't hold me to this) that the difference is in the flashpoints (?). The 800 is better for high rpm/ high load/ high temps where the 710 is better for lower loads and temps.

Again, don't hold me to this, I can't remember the source.

....and how many hours/seasons/years are you letting your top end go with these higher ratios. It's hard for me to burn anything less than 40:1 (usually 32:1). I think about how little oil that is on the crank bearings and it worries me. I'm a high rpm/aggressive rider and always thought the castor bean oil was best for that .....as long as the temps were warm/hot outside.

.....in the fall/winter, I would run Super M or Yamalube 2R in all smokers.

Not sure what's better: Jet the bike leaner for a rich 32-40:1 or leave it rich and run a leaner 50-60:1 premix???? I use to always jet it Heavy/rich on the main, run 32:1, and have spooge at the connector and out the end but I had NOOO worries about running WIDE OPEN for semi-extended periods of time.

wow, you have either mistyped or you are really confused on how mix ratio relates to jetting. Also, if you think a dino oil protects better than a synthetic, then you are mistaken. and now you say you prefer the Yamalube, yuck again. LOL

I put a bottom end in my bike recently, first one, and I bet my bike has close to 400+ hrs on it. I currently have 250+ hrs on my piston. I run 50:1 Motul 710. I need a piston, and had to put back in my old piston after checking the newer piston I had installed. Just can't afford a top end at the moment.

About the bold: More oil = less gas = leaner jetting. If you really jet the bike leaner and go from a 50:1 ratio to a 32:1 ratio, and you are borderline too lean, you can cause a seize, even though you are running more oil. Remember, the premix lubes the bottom end, fuel keeps the piston cool.

Typically, spooge comes from overly rich off idle circuit (pilot or needle diameter or AS), not the main jet.

IMHO, 40-50:1 with a good synthetic is good, the smaller the bore the more oil, jet accordingly. Any more oil and you are just wasting oil. Run what makes you comfortable, however.
