My son got a 1999 YZ 125 from his "uncle Barney" and although it is all there it needs some tlc, so we are going to document the rebuild with pics.

I like the ktm in the back..lol. I can't wait to see what the yz looks like after its done. I just picked up a 02 for the wife. I plan on doing a full rebuild on that next winter

I checked the vin and it does come up as a 99? You never know if someone changed the airbox?

Started cleaning it up, found crack in swingarm. I'll have to get that welded up.

Linkage all cleaned and greased,

Preped frame for paint,

Tank is cleaned and ready for paint or dye, going to make it black.

Ebay find! New Procircuit pipe.

Headed to my friends paint booth this afternoon!

But...
...your bike's front brake disc is a floating design, which came on the 2001's.
Was Uncle Barney an eBay hound?

I sold at least one white YZ airbox, so swapping could have easily taken place.

I know the frame is a 99 from the vin but after 10 something years who knows what happened to the bike? Uncle Barney raced it for a few years and basically didn't touch it other than a fresh topend last year so maybe the previous owner changed stuff?
Other than the topend the bike needs everything, it has been ridden hard to say the least!

Got frame back, gonna let the paint get hard before i chip it up. Spent a boatload on parts with Motosport last night so it's more cleaning and waiting for Mr.Brown to make a delivery:banana:
Found a seat on Ebay thats the colors I was looking for and got shipping confirmation today... Tomorrow it's Mototown riding so I have to leave it alone for a day or two:thumbsup:

Dye the tank using MXHollywoods process... its cheap, easy, and looks great. Paint wont hold up. Mine looks great now that its polished.
