EFI YZ450 off road set up?

Recommended Posts

I've never run out of gas, closest I came was about half or just under which took about 2 hours of woods riding to do...

I run a stock front sprocket, bought a DID chain and I'm running a pro taper 50 tooth rear. Top speed is 110kph or so which isn't all that fast on the straights, but the lower gearing is just awesome for woods riding.

I have a trail tech vapor to log distance, monitor RPM and most importantly, monitor heat. Haven't really used it for summer riding yet as it was an xmas present.

I've never had fuel issues though, where I ran out, like I said took it about 2 hours of riding and was still at half. Personally I wouldn't get the IMS tank unless I was doing some long distance enduros, for a good day of woods riding where you go back to the truck every couple hours it's perfect. Last thing I want to do is throw weight ontop of this beautifully balanced bike ?

Stock rear tire lasted only 20 hours, front tire still looks like new but has caused me to wash out many times. Tire suggestions welcome in this thread!!!!

Silencer is very restrictive, seems to be consistant with all the 450's from years past as well. A slip on is the way to go to give this bike some more usable power in the higher RPM ranges.

bark busters

"woods map"

rekluse z-start pro

49 tooth rear sprocket

regina ORN6 chain

G2 throttle tube with 400 opening

I plan to pick up the IMS tank, if you are going on long all day rides where you take snacks or a lunch you will most likely run out. My two stroke uses about 3.4 gallons on a nice day ride, nothing extremely long but decent length, so i figure 2.4 will be enough for this bike. the current tank surprisingly lasts a long time, so unless you are doing 4+ hour rides far from your base camp I wouldn't worry about it.

I am still waiting on my chain to get off back order so I can try out sprocket configurations (regina), stock is geared too high imo. Replaced front tire with mx51, haven't played with maps yet cause of snow, most likely picking up an MRD pipe soon too.

Other than that, I don't have any crazy plans besides eventually replacing the rear tire when it wears. Would love studded tires for winters here where I live, but not in the budget yet.

I have heard of people getting close to 40 miles on the stock tank, and depending on your riding I am sure its possible at some level of intensity.

  • 2 weeks later...
I went from a 14 front sprocket to a 13 and it really does well down low. I also have a Steahly heavy flywheel to boot. Now the slow tight stuff is no problem.

I checked and steahly does not make a wieght for '10's or 11's. If wrong please supply part #. Also how many oz. is it?

GYTR skid plate, rad guards, spark arrestor, GPR stabilizer, IMS tank, xring chain, Neutech tire inserts. Since cannot find heavier flywheel weight, may have to buy GYTR unit but 4 oz. seems light. Michelins on after stock Dunlops.

4 oz is light but due to where the weight is located it actually creates more inertia than older yzs with a 9 oz unit.

Are you happy with it? See your running one on your bike.

Yes, bike should come with it stock. Makes quite a difference. I put a z-start pro on shortly after so I didn't give it a lot of ride time but the bike needs it no matter what kind of riding.

OK. Spent the last 2 weekends testing and came up with this so far. Installed all I listed so far but tank. Is on back order until March. Took tech24's advise and bolted on GYTR heavy flywheel. Made a HUGE difference on the tight/twisty stuff we ride on in Western Washington. Also purchased the tuner. Ran the directmotocross.com map first. Still seemed to have too much hit on the technical stuff. Replaced with Yamaha's last map listed on their website re:"gradual response". This will be my base map for woods. Smoothed the monster out and made it a weapon. Now to add 50 tooth rear sprocket and it will be perfect. Right now with 48 tooth first to spiky and 2nd too tall. Set race sag to 100mm and all clickers to stock settings. All I can say is WOW! Never have had out of the box suspension work this good! Looks like the money I was going to put into it will have to just be used for MORE RIDING! Hate when that happens. lol. Want to thank everyone for their input. Has been extremely helpful. LOVE this website.
