New handle bars

I bent my stock bars in a crash. I will be replacing them this week. Any thoughts on the best bars? and why? I'm 6'2" should I get some taller bars? What are ya'll using?

Stay away from chrome moly or similar construction bars. They are a bit cheaper that good aluminum bars but bend easily.

My stock bars lasted until I got the bike home and uncrated it. They are so easily bent that I never even put them on the bike when I assembled it.

I prefer the Pro Tapers, Honda hi bend. I am not as tall as you (I'm 5-10) but I stand alot and the hi bend makes it more comfortable. I have had some crashes that would have bent even solid titanium bars and the Pro Tapers took them without a whimper.

I have used Renthals, also Honda hi bend. They are a good quality bar too but bend easier than Pro Tapers.

I have also used the Answer Alumite bars and they are comparable to the Renthals.

There are many other good quality bars on the market today. You have a wide variety of choices.

I am not sure what the Japanese make their stock bars from but I think it is only slightly less pliable than lead.

I run Pro Tapers with Applied T-Clamps. Love em. Wouldn't ride with anything else.

I also run Pro-Tapers with an Applied top clamp and love em! If you like the bend of the stock bar then choose the Henry bend. It is closest to stock though like everyone else said, the Pro-Tapers are bullit proof.

The Applied top clamp (and most aftermarket clamps for that matter) allow you to move the bars forward also. This should help with the leg room and also helps in turns.

I'm 6' and am very comfortable with this set up. I also ride aggressive and stand just about everywhere except turns. Hope this helps.

For a big guy like you. You may want to consider the Renthal Jimmy Button high bend. I personally don't like the flexing that Pro-Tapers have, I like more positive input from the front wheel. I can also understand, that the flex, may also reduce rider fatigue.

Ditto on the Jimmy Button's...but that is a personal preference. At 5' 10", I like the high feel for standing. I'm also old and can't squat like I used too.

I'm 6'0 and use the Honda Highs with adapters on the standard mounts.This gives me a good height and seating position.

All I can say about PRO TAPERS is that you ARE in hospital if you bend them.

These are my choice of bars.....

I find Pro Tapers flex too much. I use Renthal Twin Wall 975 (Carmichael Bend) with Applied Wrap upper and lower clamps and the mounts in the forward position. The clamps help open up the riding area for taller riders. The Twin Walls are rigid! But you feel the track. These bars are almost indestructable. I did break a set but it was a violent crash which resulted in two broken arms. I have always found bar to be the most personal choice when setting up bikes and everyone must figure out what works for them.

He guys I am considering some pro tappers but I am not sure I understand why I have to replace the factory tipple clamps? Are the tapper bars too big in diameter to fit or what? I have looked at the bars in many catalogs and they always suggest some tripple clamps so it appears to be required.. How do you choose a set of clamps? There's only like a dozen to choose from then there are kits and mods and the list gets even bigger? Any advice for someone on a low budget? I don't want to drop two bills on a set up to find that I don't like it or it does not fit and I should have gotten a different bend or something..

Wouldnt it be great if parts & accessories had a 30 day return policy like a stereo you bought at Circuit City.. If you don't like it just exchange it ?

yes, the Pro-Tapers are bigger (diameter at the mounts) than your stock bars. They can however be mounted on your stock top clamp with the Pro-Taper universal adapter kit. It is cheaper and easier than replacing the entire top clamp. Be careful with bar selection if you choose to go that route. The universal adapter raises the bars even more, so going with a high bar bend may be too tall. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I have a couple more questions.

1. With the Pro Taper Universal Mount, can the bars be moved forward? I understand that the bars will be higher with this mount.

2. Has anyone tried the oversized mounts from Dirt Tricks? www.dirttricks.com

It's a cross barless design that comes in some very popular bends.

If you don't want to replace your triple clamps - try DeMarini bars, they are a true doublewall, the second wall is inside, so they fit normal 7/8" clamps. Also, they have a V shaped crossbar that allows flex. DeMarini claims 40% less vibration....They work, I've noticed that I can go faster for longer with DeMarini's. Only drawback is cost - list $150.00 Chapparal has them for $135.00...But that is still cheaper than Pro Tapers & triple clamps. My preference is the McGrath bend, but I'm only 5'10". Hope this helps.

Well, in a cost saving measure, I went with the Jimmy Button High Renthal. I was all set to get the Pro Taper's but wasn't quite ready to fork out an additional $150 for a clamp kit. When I asked the dealer about the universal, they said they had seen several of those break. I'm going riding tomorrow with the new bars for the first time. If I bend these I'll probably go for the whole Pro Taper shabang. I would've like to have a new clamp kit to move the bars forward, but again $250 wasn't in the budget this time. Hope I don't learn the hard way!

Has anyone tried AZONIC doublecross bars or triple clamps? They look pretty good but I am wondering if I can still use my Acerbis bark busters?
