So I know it's a close fit, but I've heard a lot of BITD desert folks run one on the 08-09's.

Any tricks or words of caution?

I've heard rumor about running a spacer behind the sprocket if running an wider O-ring chain so as not to hit the side cases.

Also can you modify the stock engine guard to allow the larger dia sprocket?

Thanks in advance!

I ran a 15 on my SM bike (08 YZ450F). I was using a non-oring chain but there was no interference from the case guard.
