Quiet down the YZ426

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I've got to quiet down my 426 or let it go. I personaly love the way this bike sounds and runs, but unfortunately my older nieghbors and wife don't seem to agree. Can someone please tell me the best way to make this thing quiet and also capable of going into the National Forestry land without dumping all the thrill. I plan on doing alot of trail riding as soon as the trails here open in April. Does the WR426 silencer actually cause overheating ? I'm sure there is someone in this forum who can help. Thanks you in advanced.

We have a similar problem with dogs in my nieghborhood. Try a little antifreeze in some hot dogs and that should slove the problem. As for the wife, Iduno......

Seriously, I don't think you'll be able to reduce the engine noise without sacrificing significant engine performance. Pretty much, to reduce the noise you need to increse the muffler size/baffles/packing which in turn will increase the exhaust back pressure and your engine performance will be history. I work on large industrial engines and we are required to reduce noise levels to OSHA regs. The only way to do that is by putting a huge muffler on the thing. I not sure you could get one custom made that would still fit on the bike without increasing the exhaust back pressure, but that would be your only bet.

What Are you doing riding around in your front yard or something? Don't you guy's load up your bikes to ride? My neighbors probly don't even know I have a bike if it wasnt for them seeing it in the back of the truck, and as for the wife she thinks my BigGun is sexy. Jeff

Hey guys, I live in an area that dosen't tolerate noisy two stroke dirt bikes too well so I know what you mean. You can run an E-series pipe with 4 baffles for same performance as stock but quieter. Remove one or two more and it will be quieter still. I try not to make a nuisance out of myself and when I do ride down my street to the power line do my best not to rev the thing! You can poach trails better on a 4 stroke because unlike a 2 smoke the whole valley will not hear you. I hear guys riding 2 strokes in the local sand pit 2 km away when the wind is right. I've been chased by cops enought when I was a junior to get tired of it and the fines involved.
