exhaust pipe length

If I shorten the canister on my stock 02 YZ 426 pipe will it have a positive/ negative or any effect at all? I feel like it's a little long and want to take about 2 or 3 inches out of it.

I wouldnt bother doing it. Just buy an 03-05 450 silencer youll be more happy with it. Youll also have to make a bracket because the bracket on the stock muffler is welded on. Youll need something to match up the mounting holes. And it will probably sound worse than the stock pipe already does.

The only effect it will have is to make the bike significantly louder. Just say no.

I did it to my 426 since i was going to get a new exhaust in the near future anyways. Surprisingly it doesnt make it any louder, and it does look better

Well a buddy of mine spoke to Toby Reed owner of MXP who also builds race engines for Bill Ballance and he said it would probably improve my mid and top end power but hurt bottom end. I don't know if that's true or not but I'll probably just leave it alone. I really only wanted to do it so it would look better. I like how it sounds so if it's gonna be any louder than forget it! I've had my fair share of loud bikes and at 30 years old I'm done with loud exhaust! Check out Toby's shop. They do good work and run a clean and very professional shop.

If you want it to look better than just put this on there. Dr. D spark arrestor end cap

It will look like Dr.D exhaust, but still sound the same. The reason the stock exhaust is so ugly is because of the end cap.

Or just buy 450 exhaust like I did, it will sound better, and look better. It only sticks past the side panel a little bit.

I didn't know you could do that. Did you buy the complete exhaust or just the canister? And is there a specific model year system you had to purchase? Nice bike by the way! I'm planning on making my bike look just like you did with yours. I even have a pic of your bike saved as my screen on my pc at work lol!?

Thanks. The header is a Ti Powerbomb for a 426 and the silencer is a Ti Powercore for an 03-05 450. It fits because the steel frame model is very similar to our bikes. Ill PM you what I did on how to make it fit. It has a good tone, sounds more modern, not too loud not too quiet its 99 dB and it makes the bike look alot newer, and its pretty light too being Ti.
