I wanted to get something started like Steve (sgmartz) had started up a while back with the Beginner Riding Group thread. Based on the rides I’ve been on with the guys that were active in that thread, I think we deserve to be promoted from Beginner status, so I figured a new thread and status were in order! Seems like we have a pretty good local group going so I figured we could focus specifically on rides and hopefully we’ll pick up some new riding buddies along the way!

So this is what it’s all about . . . Dirt Bike Rides around the LA area . . . plated, green, red, it's all good . . . lets get out and hit the trail!



So let's get this started . . . anybody up for riding 11/27 or 11/28?

If this guy keeps his word and drops off my DRZ parts this week, I'm going to have a fully street-legal bike with everything needed to do some serious long offroad/dual-sport rides...and will be wanting to do lots of them. Between you, me, Ron, and others that are also DS (IF RON EVER GETS HIS STINKING KTM BACK!!!), I'm sure we'll start to do some really awesome DS rides this season!

I am a novice, and try to sneak into intermediate rides.. ;-) (or maybe I am just a not so new noob)

My Honda did quite fine this weekend out in the desert. it got fairly good gas mileage. While everyone topped off with 1.8 gallons after 75 miles, I had to put in 2 gallons in my 3 gallon tank. I gotta admit. I did crank the throttle for a bit while leading towards the husky across the 395. well, as much as my little 250 could do. SteveO was on my tail gettin sandblasted.

Hopefully I will have my KTM for this weekend. suppose to be heading up to redrock area and would like to bring both bikes. before doing serious desert ride with my KTM, I will get a bigger tank as well as test her out. looking at a clockwork tank. trying to decide between an acheribs and a clockwork. clockwork is suppose to keep the gas lower.

When you get your KTM back, be careful not to twist that throttle too much. That engine needs a good breaking-in.

Damn... at this pace you guys will experts by next week Joe. I better do some riding with you soon before I can't keep up any more !

Thats cool man, I hope you have fun with it. The plate makes it nice when you want to cruise down the road and grab a bite to eat during a ride, I've also heard that up in Big Bear there are a lot of trails that you need a plate for as well, not sure if I'm going to make it out there this year, might have to wait as it looks like the snow has already started to move in.

I hope you get it back this week . . . it's gonna be sweet! Try to do as many heat cycles around town as you can, as I've heard it's important to get it hot then cool a few times before taking it out for a full run. My buddy has the acerbis tank on his 530 and he likes it. It's really nice, he got the clear one so you can see the level which is nice, you probably wouldn't need radiator guards as the tank wraps around them so if you did have a side impact hard enough to damage the radiator, you'd probably have other problems! Where in Red Rock are you heading???

I'm not sure if "intermediate" is the proper nomenclature, but in the areas I frequent like Rowher and LPNF, I'm good with the stuff in the middle and am trying something new each time I go out there . . . especially when Sarge is leading! All I can say for certain is that I've graduated from fire roads!:p I hope to get out with you soon, Jeff.

Joe you have come a long way FAST watching the RRs. So did Ron from just a couple years ago. LPNF has helped all you guys take it to a next level. Both you and Ron run a high passion for the sport thats infectious for others. BIG DAN is like that too in the Baldy area. It's that attitude that has really helped SoCAL TT a lot this past year at a time when TT needed a good shot in the arm ! :thumbsup:

BTW Doug said you did good in Dove... I know that was a really easy ride and Victor is still trying to get his speed up. :worthy: I appreciate you guys sticking together and giving him the time he needs to grow his legs too. No matter how well any of us rides there is always some one better or slower. The desire to mentor a slower rider earns us the right to rider with others that can teach and guide us as well.

Only 2 weeks till Baldy Mesa. Feel free to bring your buddys. We have a few Baldy gurus coming that can lead multi groups. Just make sure BIG DAN knows you are coming so we know what to expect. I'll tag along with your group Joe so we can finally put down some trail miles together. We can take turns watching the big sand hills toss us back down ! :ride:

Looks like the weather forecast is calling for nice conditions this weekend . . . little chilli up in Gorman/LPNF, but looks nice out in the desert and other local areas. What do you guys think? Anybody interested in heading out and hitting the trail on Sat?

Charlies Place AKA Wagon Wheel is a staging area in Spangler Hills. You where there just 2 days ago. Close enough anyway, :lol:

Alot of info here... GPS cords... the works.

At the bottom of the page in the above link there is a goggle earth image with GPS tracks to alot of the "things to visit" out there. Anybody know how to put those tracks into a Garmin 60csx GPS? Or is it locked/protected? I just got the gps so I dont know how to do stuff like that yet :(

Hey Rick . . . Sounds like Sarge is planning another desert adventure in the same area on Sat . . . I'll probably be joining if I can make it. Are you riding on Friday too and camping out?

Well boys...my DRZ stuff arrived yesterday. I just have to put it all together (replace street stuff with DIRT stuff) and I'll have my fully functioning 4-stroke street legal dirtbike. Next year, doing Barstow to vegas FOR SURE!!!

See you guys out there soon. I won't make this one, though. Girlfriend says we need to spend more time together...and she chose this long weekend. I will do some night riding next week to make up for it, and a trail ride the weekend after this one. Been missing you guys. Isn't that sweet...

Sweet!:thumbsup: Get er done! There's a run out in Mesa Baldy on 12/5, if you have it put together by then, come on out. Will be nice for you to have a true trail bike, you seemed to be hating that 2 smoke up in LPNF that day.:ride:
