2010 oil change procedure

I noticed there wasn't a thread in the common area.

I have a couple questions, I have looked over my manual and was going to order a new filter and some oil and anything else that would be needed. I noticed a step. Number 5 says to install new gaskets, and earlier in step three when talking about removing the two drain bolts it says remove with gasket. So do I need to replace those drain bolt gaskets? And where do I find them, having a hard time finding where to buy such a thing. A bit confused as I have always ridden a two stroke and haven't heard of a gasket on the drain bolts.

Also any recommendations on oil filter or oil would be appreciated, I was going to just get a cheapo tusk, and oil haven't decided yet.

The process is the same as the '06-'09 except for the fact that there is no dip stick to unscrew to vent the reservoir while draining it, and that both drain plugs are on the same side.

It takes the same oil filter as the older models do, but it goes in the other way around, and the cover has no oil passages in it.

None of the seals or drain plug gaskets (actually copper or aluminum washers) need to be replaced every time you reuse them, but the book always tells you to because that's the safest. My advice is to get a set to have on hand for the eventual occasion when you need one.

Btw, don't change the oil with the bike on the stand, you'll get oil everywhere.

I put the triangle in the rear axel and then warm the engine up to about 90 degrees. I start with the bolt that is closest to the intake and drain that first, leaning the bike onto my shoulder to get as much oil out as I can. I put the bolt back in and tighten it, then go to the second the tranny bolt and do the same. When you pull the filter cover you'll want to tip the bike and lean it on your shoulder when your crouching as well so that the oil shoots into your dump bucket instead of all over the engine/frame.

Just makes things a little cleaner is all.
