I'm trying to lower my over all seat height a half inch or so. I'm on the shorter side and would prefer to go this route over a lowering link.

Any suggestions?

Some shave the foam. Start at 6mm (1/4 inch) and see how the comfort is.
I'm sure you have done so, but check your sag. If you are properly sprung for rider weight set it at around 100mm. I only say this because many have not set sag and if it's at 85mm they can get some "free lowering" and have their bike handle much much better.
