I have an 04' WR450 and have destroyed the piston, head and connecting rod. Almost impossible to find a second hand replacement engine or second hand parts locally. I have access to an 04' YZ450 with a smashed crankcase which I can pick up very cheap.
Will the YZ head and piston etc. fit to the WR ? I've been told it would but am scepticle.
I've only recently had the gear box rebuilt on the WR which cost a fortune. I would like to use the 5 speed WR gear box if possible.

Yes, the YZ head, barrel and piston would fit (though I am not wild about re-using a used piston).

The crank will not fit.

Cheers for advise. This will save me allot of money If I can put it together. A new piston kit won't cost me too much anyway so maybe i'll look at new for this. Main replacement costs were head and barrel.

William1, you have saved me countless hours of Googling and calling around over the past few years. My friends think I'm a genius. They don't know I read your posts. :excuseme:

Don't forget Gray. Between the two of them, we have two walking encyclopedias of most things mechanical, and YZFs and WRFs in particular. :excuseme:

I recently put an 04 YZ head on my 03 WR and it worked just fine.
