Doing fork seals on a 07

Recommended Posts

There you go......

Ignore the welded join, I only had two short pieces of the 32mm tube in stock so I had to join the two together to achieve the 280mm length.

The holes are used to put a large screwdriver through to turn it.

The "teeth" are about 11-12mm wide, with 11-12mm gaps and about 2-3mm deep. (Sorry, I didn't have my glasses with me when I was measuring!)

Works a treat!

.

All I've done to measure oil level is buy a medical syringe (with no needle) and I (accurately) cut pieces of clear plastic tube that slip over the end of it for different oil levels.

The "butt" of the syringe sits on the edge of the fork tube, with the plastic tube extending down to the correct length required into the tube/oil.

I sit the fork vertically in a special plywood holder I made that I clamp to the work bench.

It's basically a piece of 1/2" ply with a hole in it the same diameter as the fork tube.

I then suck oil with the syringe until it starts sucking air. That's when i know the oil level is right. Repeat for the other fork.

The entire setup cost me about $4-5.
