First impression on my 2010

Recommended Posts

I am completely with you there. The standard pipes, as you gave the prime example, are ridiculously loud at full throttle. No doubt your pipes pass the new testing requirements. I would like your opinion though on the new testing standards, as there are so many varying factors that affect results, from temperature, humidity levels to overcast skies, and echoing off surrounding structures. Do you see the new testing being successful? It seems a very GREY area of any motorsport.

the 2 meter max test is exactly how these bikes should have been checked from day one , it removes all the variables involved and lets you see what the bike is going to sound like when its on the track with the throttle pinned , the varying factors are not gonig to make a quiet bike loud or a loud bike quiet , the 20" test is a complete waste of time unless you want to inforce a db limit in the pits where bikes are idleing around

reducing the weight of an exhaust system is far more noticable durability wise than say making the bike feel lighter , IMO the exhaust system is the last place you want to use thin light weight materials because of the heat cycles and vibration that cause the material to fatigue and crack or break , I know I know the pros run them , but what they dont do is run them more than a couple hrs. lucky for the light weight pipe builders most guys dont ride hard or long enough to have them fail in short notice. the way I build them they take a beating for a long time

as far as testing , I measured the stock header and found it to be the same dimentions I would build for a good overall header so I looked at the muffler and found a reducer with a square shoulder that would cause excess sound wave reversion that hampers the incoming charge of AF on overlap , so I built a muffler to the dimentions I thought would boost overall power and ran them both on the dyno back to back , the the stocker made less power across the range , the increase with my slipon was enough that I knew there was not going to be any significant gain changing the header around

Slip-on. Dave states that his testing shows no reason to replace the factory header.

I hear ya, finally. I used to sped big $$ on a pipe, only to sell the bike a year later. got tired of doing that, and bought a $300 Yosh R4 slip on.

removed the spark arrestor core, Tried it out yesterday, and it ripps!

Only draw back, its a little heavier than stock(a few ounces, not much)

Strange thing is, i thought a weaker power was supposed to make your bike easier to ride? When i put the yosh on, it had more power everywhere, and made the bike easier to ride because power was there no matter what rpm, when you needed it. no need to re-gear either. still on the stock map, havent tried to remap yet.

It also allowed me to break the rear wheel loose when i wanted to. controlled slides, easy as pie.

I can immagine the MRD must be awesome too.

the stock muffler is huge so anybodys slipon should be lighter , just not as light as replacing the header with TI , IMO the weight diff. of an exhaust system can not be felt by the rider , its not like 10 or 15 lbs that you could feel , its like 2 lbs diff. on a 220 lb bike , nobody can feel that diff. when your trying to go through a rough turn as fast as you can with out falling :excuseme:

Can you post a pic of your slip on for the 2010??

Is it a pro comp style or standard?

I checked your website and your work looks amazing, would like to see a full pic of the can for the 2010 though. 279.99 is 120$ less expensive than the yosh, so I'm very interested, as I'm sure others here are too!
