blazer you got your p.m. turned off i cant send it out

but anyways  i was reading up about the electrical on my clymers manual and talked to a electrician here at work tonight and aparently the tt600 has a 6v dc magneto with a voltage regulator. The xt600 has a ac alternator 12v system with the rectifier/ regulater after the alternator with the lighting system in parallel with the battery. So it seems that for what i need to do Ill have to buy a alternator rotor and windings (12v from the xt600) as well as a rectifier regulator that you showed me and battery. Ill also have to remove the dc regulator as it will carry an under voltage with two of them.

The only issue (I hope) i have now is that will the CDI and ignition coil work with this new 12V ac system? Opposed to the old tt600 dc 6V?

As for the voltage testing I will do that, Ill also check how many wires there are.

Thanks for the help!

This is an excellent thread.

I'm restoring my 1984 TT600 and would like to ask for a few recommendations...

  • Has anyone found a satin paint or coating that makes the cases, head and cylinder look good?  Something that sticks?
  • Carb Parts - My bike's YDIS is in bad shape from an elastomeric point of view.  I bought another carb set-up off ebay but it is in even worse shape.
  • Stock Shock rebuild -- MX-Tech is one place I've found.  Any others?
  • Brake pads for the double-leading show front brake?
I have a 20" reverse cone megaphone exhaust as well as the SuperTrapp and stocker.  The White Brother's head pipe is also there.

I really like this bike even though a modern four-stroke 250 would run circles around it!  Thanks for the great post!

Warren

P.S. - Does anyone have a proven single-carb mod for this bike?  Maybe a 41 Mikuni pumper?

I don't know how this will apply to your bikes, but you might not have to swap the magneto:

Found it searching for answers for a similar issue on a different bike. Hope it helps. If the Wayne fellow in that thread is still active here, he might have all the answers you need.

Some really cool builds here! Hope my bike comes out half as nice.

You know, I always hated the gas tank design/style on the TT600, I wonder if one of the HL style YZ125 tanks would fit with some work on the seat?  Anybody ever tried one?

I feel your pain..If I had money, I'd have four running bikes insead of two..

Did you look at those Shinko 700's? (tires) They have good reveiws..

I have been flopping back and fourth between the 244s & 700s.
I will likely be doing some commuting on the bike in the short term so thats why I was looking at the 244.

Once I'm not poor I will get a set of bearings for my other rear, another sprocket and then mount a "Road" tire like a trailwing.

Yeah the government told them all to go back to work. $32/hr, 7 wks vacation and they are complaining.

I figure I will invest in some better tires once I know I like the bike...I still have only ridden it around the block a few times.

I found out that the front end of the bike is from a 84 CR500 so I can finally get my brake pads.  :ride:Soon

Hey gang, had to take a hiatus for a while and get my head cleared. I was spending WAY too much time on my bike. However, in the last work I did, I was forced to replace the intake manifolds (plasti-dip broke down quickly under the heat) and I reupholstered the seat using some "gripper" stuff I got on eBay. Problem is, though I seem to have the rev of the bike smoother than I had it before, I still don't think it's as seamless as it should be. So I'm still trying to get the sync squared away.

Any ideas?

Hi all..Rode the TT today for the first "real" ride..She did great..ran strong and no "burp" when the secondary opened up..only thing, it got a little warm..warm enough that when I went back to the jeep, water I dumped over my head dripped onto the oil tank and it sizzled! That's a little warm, right? I've never owned a bike that wasn't water cooled until this one. So what's the deal? A new set of jets? Still need to pull carb off and see what ones are in there.  Got that oil out of the engine too.

Shyboy..you're up higher than I am..ever checked your ignition timing? A small advance, I bet might help..just a thought.

I thunk the heat is just a byproduct of being old school. Not much can be done short of not riding it... Though heavier old may help a bit I think. As for my timing, unless I'm missing something, I don't see how the timing can be adjusted short of a new custOm CDI. I know the problem is in the carb adjustment, I am just getting sick of adjusting without feeling like I'm on the right track or something.
