I'm not really trying to stir things up, and I'm pretty much a Honda Guy. 2 Out of 2 Motorbikes in my garage were Hondas before I switched from the XR250 to the WR250F.

But what will the CRF(X I would go for) provide that with WR doesn't?

Lower seat height? (This would be nice for shorties like me)
Lighter weight?
Better turning? (The WR "pushes". I need to get the suspension done perhaps.
More revs? (More than the WR.. surely not ;-)

I'm not saying that the WR is the best ever, and I will almost certainly lean towards the CRF myself when my '02 is getting tired. But only after I see some reviews/ride reports and perhaps even ride one myself.

On a side note, I've ridden some other blokes big bore beasties (520exc, berg501, etc) but nothing does it for me like a screaming 4 banger. ;-)

It is the new bike hype. You will not be "better" on one or the other. But Honda's sell used very well and look newer longer due to alum. frame and small plastics so that might make a difference. As for the bike pushing try seting the preload and the correct sag and slide the fork tubes up in the clamps.

You really don't expect Honda to say that Yamaha owns the off-road competition market and we can't compete??? :)

From the specs:
The Honda will be lower.
Lighter? Who knows.
Turning? Someone said a pro thought it turned better. Spud Waters?
Rev higher, who needs that? 13k isn't enough?

It will be aluminum framed, lower, and red. One rumor is the CA model will be green sticker legal. That is a HUGE sales plus for those stuck under the Kalifornia guberment.

Ahh.. If they can get it legal, then I bet they'll sell clackloads of them, and so they should.

I cant believe that there is so many problems with road legal over there.

Mind you, it could be better over here too, strictly speaking, they should have blinkers, horn, very restrictive exhaust/airbox etc.

Beats me why they dont just set some more reasonable specs and let us have our fun.

Oh thats right, I've never heard of a Politician on a Dirt Bike.

Here are tidbits from Kalifornia...

A political group was taken out and shown the off-road riding areas in question on quads. The politician in charge was so thrilled with quads, he bought two. One for him, one for his son. He made a few good appointments that were pro off-road. Anyone can ride a quad. It's the best way to show politico's how much fun off-roading can be.

Compromise is part of politics. Give and take. Politicians will give up the off-road riders rather than take from the auto manufactures. I've been told that the emmissions from dirt bikes are greatly exagerated by assuming that all dirtbikes are ridden every weekend. A lot of dirtbikes spend the weekend in the garage. But if you state that each dirtbike is ridden a lot, cut backs for dirt bikes add up to a lot of polution savings. So you find ways to restrict dirt bikes and you can let the makers of the Hummer H2 sell big gas guzzle mobiles. (Hey, it's fine with me, I own an 1992 Suburban, but don't take away my 4-stroke dirt bike to say you're cleaning up the air.)

I'm about 5'4. When the CRF 450 came out there was talk about how low the seat height is. I checked it out, I could reach the ground about the same way I can with my YZF or with a friend's KTM RFS. The seat height number is about as meaningful as the horsepower number advertised by the manufacturers. In the real world the shape of the seat and the frame plus the seat height dictate how someone like me will reach the ground. Sadly, I haven't run into any low seated modern bikes. :)

If they make it emissions legal in California don't race it in the Moped class or you will lose!

it'snot like it'll stay legal for long :). Uh, I mean, I'm sure hoping it comes in with the green sticky.

I'm in CA, and if the 'X' is a green sticky, I'll patiently wait my turn on the pre-order list. If red sticky? I'll continue to ride my very green tt-r250.

And who ever heard of the next-years' model comin' out in December?!? Sux. It'll seem like it's a year old already. :D

you are so right about that dude my ram 2500 with a hemi... lots a punch with about 8 mph in the city and about 16 on the high way... and they're complaining about a little dirtbike....?? running a diesel tractor for 5 minutes will "pollute"...what have you :) more than a 4stroke will in 5 years... everything is so unbalanced and biased in how they handle things :D :D :D :D maybe they will come to their senses and see what is actually happening

I agree with YZFE on the seat height. Its just marketing baloney.I'm 5'3" and sat on all the brands. Last year I owned a cr125;wr250;ttr225;and bought my son a yz125. I rode a ktm125 around the track a few times too and a yz250 and a cr250 and lately a yz450f and a crf450. They all had about the same seat height exactly, they all felt a little diffrent and the most comfortable of all of them was the crf 450 for me next to the ttr 225 which was the only one I could touch the ground on. If the crf had an electric start I could live with the 5 speed. My current bike is a ktm 450exc and I love the motor and the bike in general but the suspension needs work to compare to the stock honda suspension, plus the bike feels bigger cause it is a little longer and the angle of the forks is diffrent and the handle bars are a little farther away and thats why the taller guys like the ktm. I'm hoping that honda comes out with e-start next year or some one invents a kit to install one.

The wr isn't too tall? I'm about 5'6" and can't get both feet on the ground with either the yzf or the wr.
The seat height is a major concern for me actully.
The web sight says it's about 37.2", so I measured it, and it is.Lately I've been thinking about getting a 03 yzf instead of the crf 250 to save about $2500, and just dealing with the extra 2" seat height.
What do you guys think?
