Well the claimed weight is 268. That's 28lbs and I don't think that's going to happen unless you remove the entire estart assembly

I have lost 15-20lbs of my bike, can't really remember the numbers, but the main players are...

Exhaust- use YZ or aftermarket

Battery- use Ebatt or Turntech

Rear shock spring- use YZ titanium

Kickstand- remove and replace peg mount with YZ

Pegs- use Ti

Remove headlight, tailight, odo

AIS- need to come off anyways

And whatever little odds and ends you can find to lose weight, it all adds up....

I think it was 17 lbs I got off with the E start and a capacitor in place of the battery, along with all the then useless associated wiring. I'm sure you could knock off some weight with lighter wheels and tires and really make it feel lighter.

I don't get why guys pull the estarts off. It's the reason I bought a WR, along with DS potential.

I only have money for a few mods, what gives the most bang for the buck?

Battery is $100 saves around 3-4lbs . This is the weight you notice the most.

YZ Ti spring if stock spring rate works for you can be had for $50 or so on Ebay or classifieds here 2-3lbs

YZ exhaust can be found cheap 2-3lbs

Remove kickstand free- YZ peg mount $10 for 1-2lbs

Headlight, tailight, odo $25 for YZ # plate

I have no idea how you can get 17 lbs off of a 08 wr just by taking off the e-start . the starter itself weighs well under a pound . the battery might weigh . if you opened the case and pulled out all the extra gearing and the starter clutch . you might come up with 1.5 more . yank all the extra wiring and switches might be 1 more be i highly doubt it .

thats 6.5 lbs maybe not 17

bottom line is your best weight loss is a pipe . after that start pulling lights . and such like but i highly doubt you'll lose 17 lbs of your bike without spending a heck of alot of cash on titanium or be out of gas and oil and water for that matter.if you really need to loose all that weight on a wr I recommand buying a yz and just putting in a wr gearbox . Then you will still have a wr "wide ratio" without all the extra crap .

LOL so the reason for buying a WR is.................. If you take all this off you might as well buy a YZ:bonk:. The bike is not that heavy if you cant handle the weight buy a smaller bike.

I will update the battery at some point.

And will shop for a Ti spring.

YZ exhaust can be found cheap 2-3lbs

Is the header the heavy part or the muffler? Didn't want to make the bike louder and can barely hold on now after it stretches my arms for a 2 hour race.

I'd like to help but I can't even get MYSELF under 240.:banghead::eek:

hahah lol

I hate to be an ass... but the bike is a bit of a piggy..

must be about 275 wet.... I truly don't think the started system is 17pounds.

i think truly with out major surgery.. you are not going to tak more than 20 pounds off the bike..

i think the battery high up you might notice ... but with the gas tank full.. not really sure of that either.

tires / wheels might getya a few pounds as well...

I beleive the way yamaha has been playing the weight war for a long time.. more and more exotic metals are being used all the time... look at their sled lineup...

I beleive if there was a gross weight adder on this bike Yamaha would have already addressed it.

anyhow my 02 cents

Wait until you add a desert tank, heavy duty tubes, hid lighting and skit plate

With that said, the weight of the WR doesnt bother me. Of course when it comes to "playing" around a YZ would be nice

heh absolutly feel the same way... love my WR for most of my riding ..

went riding with a buddy with a little crf230 trail bike.. we were deep in the bush tight 2' wide trail i was exhausted.. he had an easy time with the air cooled little bike..

cheers

Muffler, I used an 08 YZ with PMB sparky and silent insert, just 96db's. Nice and light, short and out of the way

Mines getting beat though, need something new soon....

Piggy? - a drz is piggy, a XR600 is piggy. The WR's in australia are slim as you like. wet weight 120kg - less 8 l of fuel = 112kg, change to smaller headlight 111kg, remove indicators, mirrors etc 110kg... people are crazy if they think this is a heavy bike. a YZ450 is 104kg dry weight...

this is how i would weigh my bike

112kg dry weight

111kg with spare headlight

110kg with removed indicators and mirrors

remove muffler restriction

Vortex sprocketc

109kg.

so this is my bike at 109kg or 249lb

battery change

107kg.

Ti springs and exhaust

105kg.

this could get the bike to 105kg or 230lb. at this point it would weigh 1-2kg more than a YZ...
