WR450 carb prob

Recommended Posts

I'm new to this and an 08 wr450. I bought it in the Bay area and brought it home to Wyoming where I ride it between 4500 and 9000ft. The guy I bought it from(49 yr old in a mid life crisis) pulled the smog, installed a Leo Vince slip on and I dont know what else. It starts good, runs good at lower rpm's and accelerates great. The problem is, at a sustained, elevated rpm (like running up the road in high gear 55 mph) it cuts out constantly like its running lean. When I throtle up it's right there, then hold steady again it cuts out again. What do ya think?

Thanks,

Pat

I agree it feels/sounds like a main jet mixture issue, but it acts/sounds lean and I would think it would be rich coming from sea level to 4500ft...?

Do I have to remove the carb to re-jet or pull clips?

Pat

kinda sounds rich to me but I could be wrong. Not sure on aluminum frame wr but you can probably do it on the bike by tilting the carb and I assume you can get to the access hole in bottom of carb bowl.

Changing pilot, main and needle/clip position can be don one the bike. You do not have to tilt the carb.

Really? I have an 09 and I can barely see the carb.

When I did mine I was pulling the rear shock at the same time, so I pulled off the rear subframe ... but I really don't see how I could have gotten into the top/bottom of the carb with it on the bike and the subframe on.
