Scotts or GPR

Recommended Posts

Take your pick. In the 1000's of posts on 'which damper is better', about 75% favor the Scotts and 25% favor the GPR or some other brand.

The reasons most favor the Scotts is in the variety of adjustments available and especially for the fact that the Scotts has separate and independent adjustments for low and high speed damping.

Where did you come up with that 75/25 crap????? Was there a poll that I didn't see???

Both are good stableizer... GPR's are a little cheaper and have FREE servicing And much easer to use..

I heard Scott is a copy of GPR, I thought there was even a lawsuit over patent infringement. Im sure they both are great though. I have a GPR, I got a great deal on it, it has surely saved my ass many times, and I think it's great.

Desert Rider-

Our damper has three circuits of adjustment, Low Speed, High Speed and Sweep or range of damping.

1) Low speed is your overall resistance to turning. Going flat out out in what ever gear and having the bars shake due to the front end being light. At slower speeds or situations where you need to turn the bars you run less damping- at higher speeds like Baja type stuff you would normally run more damping

2) High speed damping has nothing to do with speed of the bike, but it is all speed of the bars. It is easier to think of it has a backup valve for the low speed- It works when your bars take a sudden hit and they try to "jerk" out of your hands and you have the Low speed set loose. You use less of this damping when the Low speed is set tighter. Very good for motocross and tight terrain.

3) Sweep is where the damper starts and stops damping. Our damper starts in the center of its stroke and dampens outwards and then can break free at 4 different points so you do not have to "fight" the damper to turn your bars. It also offers free return back to center for the same reason. Again, motocross and tight woods terrainwould want the damper to break free sooner than a full on Baja speed.

If you go to our website you can download the actual manual that will explain in greater detail how this all works. I will attach a file that will show the install applicable to your bike.

Also remember that our damper is fairly universal. If you buy one for your Honda this year and then turn around and buy a different bike next year you you can get new mounts to put the damper onto the new bike. We do make a mount to put the damper above your handlbars or SUB mounted below the bars which will raise them about an inch.

Finally, all of our dampers are hard anodized or heat treated to prevent wear and oil contamination. We use a "quad" design seal on or main shafts the prevent leaks (very similiar to todays x-ring chain seals) and we stand behind ANY manufacturers defects. All parts are made in America, although SOME of the older dampers were made in Sweden by Ohlins to our specs. We have been selling the damper since the mid-late '80s and we have been in business ourselves since the early '70s.

what a dumbass claim from one person who doesnt like gpr LOL!!!!!lazydog your out too lunch on service ive had 3 of them and theve serviced them for free even after the year was up, not just that but i had a race in the spring and needed it back from them within the week when i had damage from riding(my own fault) and they fixed for free and rushed shipping back at no cost. you might have had a bad experience but just say that then, instead of speaking for everyone when it sounds like you know nothing about it.Ask around ato the next few races your at and see what the general response of GPR service is, then you might get it(if youve ever been to a race) by the way i also use a scotts on one of my bikes but just because of the seperate high speed dampning but for a recreational rider you cant go wrong with GPR.

im pretty sure no one is going to listen to your dumbass comments bro LOL!!!!

hey desertrider if youd like i can hook you up with some good guys at GPR theve always been helpful but as i said it sounds like if your riding all desert you should be going with the scotts for the high speed, the boys at GPR would likely tell you the same!

The unbiased estimate comes from the 1000's of testimonials in numerous threads on Scotts vs other dampers in ThumperTalk.

Wrong! The Scotts damper was around way before GPR and they are nothing alike.

I've used both and currently run a GPR v4 but only because I got a really good price on it. If I could choose again I would go right back to Scotts. Sure the GPR is a good damper but the Scotts is so much more adjustable and just seems to work better. Do yourself a favor and just buy the Scotts, unless you can get a killer price on a GPR. Most shops sell them for the same price, IMO for the same price it's a no brainer......SCOTTS!!!

yes i totally agree the scotts is much more adjustable and versitile, i got my GPR V4's at a good price as well but i really was impressed with the service and i dont do much high speed riding but i dont think, as i said before anyone will argue the scotts is far more versatile.

The high speed dampening is NOT for high speed riding!! It's more like a second degree of dampening in which it operates when forces are applied at a higher rate or speed of force.
