2010 YZ4050F IMS Tank

Did not see this mentioned anywhere yet so thought I'd throw it out. This tank is on the IMS website along with a couple other places like Cycle Buy.

I usually prefer the clear tanks, but this one makes the YZ look completely gnarly in black or grey (whatever that is). ?

I just received mine, haven't installed it yet (owners manual says to replace the fuel pump gasket so I'm going to get one of those before I take it apart).

I also ordered the 0.8 gallon Acerbis front tank for long distance riding (headed to Taylor Park in 2 weeks). I'm amazed at the tiny tanks they're putting on these bikes now!

I may be wrong but with fuel inj. isn't the bike better on fuel. I would think that 2.4 gallons would be equal to maybe 2.8 or better on a carb. engine.

I would think it is better on fuel, in stock tune at least. But you start messing with the fuel maps with the Power Tuner and it will go a bit quicker than expected...

smaller takes one would assume are because these bikes are designed for mx not offroad. granted some mx tracks can get pretty long

I'm headed to Meunster next week with the new tank - I'll have my GPS on me so I can check the range with the new tank. I'll report back here once I have the mileage.

I didn't notice in the photo up top that the IMS tank doesn't allow the use of the stock tank covers. I'm gonna have to find a decal or something that goes with the stock plastics (red/white/black).

Looks decent... i got one but havent mounted it yet. will be curious to hear miles you get... also would love for someone to build a sticker so the rad shroud doesnt look so different.. but overall not bad.

Looks really good. How is the fit, does it swing up the same way as the stocker? Also curious as to whether the mounting area for the pump is plastic or metal.

Fitment is pretty good. The gap between the radiator shrouds and the tank is bigger than I would like, but it's not terrible. I had a minor problem with the spacing of the mounting flanges at the front of the tank, but finally got it wiggled in there. All of the mounting hardware from the stock tank is reused on the IMS - it still pivots just like the stocker.

The mounting surface for the fuel pump is plastic. The threaded inserts are molded into the tank. No leaks from mine...

How many miles can you get out of the 2.4gal?

Well, we tackled Bulcher this morning. We got there around 9:00 and it was already hot. The highs were 99-101 so, needless to say, we didn't put in as many miles as we normally would.

Per my GPS, I rode 20.04 miles. On the way home, I stopped at a gas station and topped off the tank and it took 0.935 gallons. At that rate, the 2.4 gallon tank would net me 51.30 miles.

The riding was very slow with lots of hill climbs. I'm sure the mileage would be better if we were moving a bit faster.

UPDATE:

Just got back from Taylor Park. I bought the Acerbis 0.8 gallon front mounted tank to extend my fuel mileage. I didn't really need it!

The first day, we traveled 62.4 miles (GPS) and I used the 0.8 gallons + roughly 1/4 of the 2.4 gallon IMS tank. So that's 62.4 miles on 1.4 gallons , or 44.6 mpg.

Keep in mind that most of our riding was at 10,000 to 12,000 feet above sea level, so the bike was using less fuel than it would at lower altitudes. How much less, I have no idea.

I was surprised at how much clutch slipping I was doing on the slow, steep climbs. Stuff I would lug up in Texas was kicking my 450's ass in Colorado!

The fact that it ran at that altitude without alteration is pretty cool though, eh? ?
