my bro has a yz426 (01) and the clutch is very grabby as in you cannot adjust it at all. i took it apart and the hub has a lota of play like the nut isnt on tight when in fact it is on very tight w/ an impact. so i was wondering if a yz400 hub was the same, since i can get one of those dirt cheap. any other help on the problem would be greatly appreciated

Nope, they are not the same. Hub shouldn't be loose, tho, as it's on a splined shaft. Pull it apart and make sure that the thrust washer is there between the basket and hub, and that it's not hung up on a burr on the splines...
