water pump leaking

I have a 2000 yz426f.Itr is leaking water from the small whole on the water pump cover does that mean i need a new water pump ? is this something i can do myself?

Yes, it means the water pump seal needs replacement, and yes, in most cases, anyone reasonably good with a wrench can do the job himself.

There are two seals, one for oil and one for coolant. Commonly, the coolant seal will wear a groove into the shaft, and the shaft will need to be replaced.

Drain the coolant, drain the oil, remove the right side crankcase cover, unscrew the impeller from the shaft, and slide it out. Note the position of each seal BEFORE you remove it. They look backward until you think about where the fluids are.

What Gray said.. Since it's apart, replace all the components.. Shaft, and both seals.. Otherwise it will start leaking again..
