I was 11 years old and it was a 1974 Yamaha MX80 (Christmas Present). Rode so much, I ran it into the ground. Had a 1975 Yamaha YZ80(first year of the yellow yz80) by mid summer and was racing. Bought both at the old Bob Malley's Yamaha in Tacoma. Loved those two bikes. Great memories.

My first bike was a 68 Hodaka Ace 100. I was 8 years old, purchased it brand new and could not touch the ground with both feet. If I remember right it was $409 with a helmet (bell), googles and gloves. I only had $400 cash so I had to borrow $10 from my dad that I had to pay back and the interest was extra chores for a year (interest was high in those days). My first stop at the gas station was a hoot too! I had a pint of oil so I put in 2 1/2 gallons of Premium (Leaded) and bought a drink and still got change back from my dollar! Wow who new we would be paying 2, 3 and 4 dollars a gallon for regular (87? octane). I eventually took the lights off and added a down pipe and K&N filter. Changed the gearing to 14/50 if I remember right and put some knobbies on it. I had the bike into the 80's and sold it for $200 to a friend. The crank case had a cracked screw boss for the left crank cover and I took the engine completely apart to weld it. The gears and shafts looked and tested almost like new. I had 12,800 miles on the clock and those had been hard learning miles for me my brother and a few of my friends. I even taught my dad how to ride on that Hodi! Wish I never sold it. I had a Super Rat, a Wombat and a Thunderdog in succession! Oh those where the days!

'58 Benelli, followed by a '49 Black Shadow. I was 11 at teh time and could sit on them. It was not for a year or two that I got my first modern bike, a '69 Yamaha AT1 125. Still have the Vincent though, most of the other bikes I acquired came and left.

My first bike was a 84' Honda CR60. Man that was a sweet little bike, after a few years I was too big for it so I stepped up to an 87' Yamaha YZ80. Those were the good ol days.

A Hand-me-down from my dad. A 1960s Greeves 250 trials bike(Springer front end and all!) He said "If you can start it you can ride it". (Anybody remember doin the Greeves Dance). Well it was no easy feat for a 12 year old but, I rode that bike for a year until he bought me a Hodaka 100B in 1970 or 71

I'm kinda "new" to this compared to most guys posting on this thread, my first bike was a 2004 TTR-250 that I bought in 2006 from a guy that barely used it for a few rides. Been hooked on riding bikes ever since. Only kept the TTR-250 for a bit over a year and sold it to an older gentleman who intended to make it his last bike.

1970 DT1 (250) in red. Bought it as a rolling basket case (engine was in pieces in a box) for $50 in '79. Got plenty of tickets on it (like pushing it with a hot engine on the sidewalk, even though the cops didn't see me riding it, I still had to go to court with Dad...).
Loved that thing, rode the hell out of it, the gas tank would crack over and over again at the bottom weld near the petcock. :smirk:
Sorry that I sold it when I joined the Navy. Would still like to have one again just for fun.
