Do they make an H6M HID bulb yet?

Recommended Posts

I have been searching and it looks like there might be some H6M bulb type HID kits out there. If so, that would make it much easy'er to run a HID bulb in my stock 07 WR450F's headlight housing. If anyone out there has found a source for an H6M type HID bulb pass it on. I want to keep the factory headlight and I'm not looking forward to modifying it to accept an H4 type HID bulb.

BTW,

I gave the PIAA 35w X 35w extreme white H6M bulb a try. First of all (against sound judgment and advice) I have been running my factory

35w X 35w bulb with both filliments burning at the same time for a couple of years now. For all you nay sayer: yes, it could draw to much current and melt switches and wires, leave you out in the middle of a dark night a million miles away from camp / home without a head light. I just might be one lucky SOB but running both fillaments at once has worked great for me for just over two years. Yes, I also cary a fully charged super bright flash light and some tape just in case it comes time to pay for such Tom Foolery.

Anyway, back to the PIAA 35w X 35w extreme white H6M bulb. Not much of differance. The trail did seem a little brighter and it gave a little more usable light. The bulb does dim just a little at idle (running both fillaments with this bulb also) off the A/C side. Was it worth the $30? For me, I would have to say yes. It doesn't make me faster or want to shout, "wow, that's a lot of light." It's a small improvement but most of all, now I know whats behind curtain #2.

I plan to order the BD componets tonight so I can get on with "floating the ground" for the HID up-grade. Soon all of these attempts to turn a lantern into a light house will be over, S/T.

My suggestion is to spend a little more money and get the Baja Designs Diablo HID.The Diablo has much better optics than a WR headlight assembly and in my opinion you would be much better off in the long run.Thats my 2 cents.Personally I use the BD 8'' HID.

Here is the link you asked for.I dont have any experience with this company or its products so I cant tell you if they are any good or not. 4000k-5000k is a good choice any more than that and its too blue.

Thanks bigbubba,

That Diablo HID kit = big bucks! I know the Diablo HID is bad @@s but I realy don't need that much light. A HID H6M bulb in the factory headlamp housing will be fine for my needs. I have seen many inexpencive HID kits for $60 and that will do two bikes! That means only $30 if I share with another WR owner. I just have to find a seller that offers a H6M HID bulb in their kit. It wouild be much cheaper than the $285 Diablo light. If you want the best I guess you have to pay for it.

I was surprized to see that the above company did not offer an "H6M" bulb. They only listed a "H6" bulb, not the same.

First of all, I did find several ebay venders that offer the H6M bulb (various temp's) in their low budget HID kits.

So, for anyone that's looking to do a simple HID light upgrade in their factory 07+ WR450 the below is the cheap'est and easy'est way that I have found.

Do the "floating the Ground" mod your self: $ Free

5000k H6M HID kit including S/H from ebay $37.99 (it comes with 2-lights).

If you split the kit with a freind or use the second light for another bike its realy only half that cost for one bike: $ 18.99

BD regulator/rec. custom wired for the WR. This is a tough one to estimate

because I have to pay sales tax plus I'l have to wait for the actual shipping

charge adjustment. They quote you a minimum of $15 S/H but in the end

only charge you actual S/H + $2 ($49 for part, $5.60 tax, $15 S/H) I estimate

a minumum deduction of $5 from their S/H estimate. $ 74.60

Total cost (for me) to go HID with BD Reg/Rec: $93.95 +/-

Not bad at all, but just before writting this I found that it can be done

even cheaper if you go through Trail Tech for the regulator rectifier,

Total HID set up with Trai Tech Reg/Rec: $66.86

$66.86 for HID, that's a smoking deal! I won't cry over spilled milk and the loss of $27.09 for not going to Trail Tech in the first place. The BD designs order has all ready been made. I wish I had put as much research in finding the best price on the regulator/rectifier as I did on the "H6M" HID light kit.

I hope this info helps others, S/T.
