Who is thinking about this?

I WOULD, but the 94 db cut-off might just eliminate me...

I am closer to the Federally mandated 96. Why this higher standard?

I'd be interested, but I'm at 95db with the FMF Quiet Core Insert and might not be allowed either.  I've heard from others that it's a blast!

I'm not road legal. So I guess that means I'm out.  :)

I am hoping to ride the Black Dog, depending on if I can get legal by that time.  My buddy Matt and his bro have done it for years and love it.  A very famous event in beautiful country.  Hope to be there  :)

You definitely need to be street legal, but I will tell you it was last year's BD that wow'd me enough to convince me to be a permanent dualsporter. :)

For the noise issue, see the promoter's article  Stealth Me Baby.  Mt. Hood is not exactly a dirt bike mecca, so it's rather amazing Tom manages to overcome the amount of land use issues he does to come up with such great courses.

It's definitely one of the best dual sports around, but you do need to be street legal.  you'll be riding on hiway 26 at the start finish, and on some pavement sections, also more than likely going into a few small towns for lunch, gas, etc.  no way to get around that.  just remember street legal in oregon isn't to tough, and there are more and  more good dual sport events in oregon.  the Rat Dog is another one,  covers lots of the old trask qualifier trails.   Keeping quite is also a big deal with so many tree huggers and the like in the area wanting any excuse to stop events.

Hey Brandon,

Think we could just take some extra muffler packing and shove it in the end of the pipe to pass the sound test?

Also, I'm going over to Cle Elum again this weekend - same spot as last time.  If you wanna hook up, give me a call.

I have a super-secret tail pipe right now, and I am not sure if I will pass the check or not.

I spoke with Kendra last night about it, and we want to try...

(As for my SS pipe, I got my hands on a YZ pipe, and I made my own baffle for the old FMF endcap that I had, and got that on the YZ pipe. Now I am spark arrested, and I am under the 96 db limit, but I don't know if I am down to 94 or not. Only one way to find out, I guess....)

As for this weekend, Damn! I would be there in a heart-beat, but K and I are planning on street-biking it to see her parental units over in Spokane...

Let's do the Dog!

I've read the flyer, but for those that have ridden this event before.. What’s the fun to fall factor for a newbie DP/off road rider?  I have lots of track and street time on a bike, but nothing off road... Good shape, no health issues, still young enough to be forgetful of the pain associated with falling, and old enough to know you’re not supposed to fall.  I’ll be working 3 on 2 off most of the summer at FT Lewis WA, but might just be able to swing the right days off to ride the Black Dog.

There is a AA, A, B and C course,  the B or C course should fit what you need from past rides of the Black Dog,  AA is tough,  A is a LONG Hard course poker run,  the B course has a good mix of nice single track and tight trails mixed in with two track stuff.  The C course is rideable by KLR's BMW's, etc.  In fact in past Rat Dog events, there has been a guy with a sidecar that made the C loop, and I think he is signed up for the black dog this year.  If you ride both days you could do the C course sat, and switch to the A or B course Sun,  (or Vice versa).  All in All,  Tom tries to keep the amount of pavement to a minimum.  If you have questions,  try dropping tom an email,  I think his email is on the blackdog website.  Some of the scenary is spectacular around Mt Hood,  and it will probably include sections of the Barlow trail.
