Stock is a 49. AT 53, you start needing to modify the lower chain guide.

What would i have to do to the guide? Can i use a 52 with the stock chain and not messing with the guide?

The guide would need to be extended/lowered.

If you have the ability to move the wheel forward an inch from its current position, you may be able to use your current chain. If it's the stock chain, you should throw it away in any case, but that's another matter.
