Tire life Geomax 51

I've always replaced my front tire after 10 races using the D756. I could feel the difference. I'm at 9 races on the Geomax and the knobs still looks sharp. I ride on all types of dirt on a 2010 YZ450 in the old mans classes. Any experience on the new Dunlops?

I currently use MX51's on both ends of the bike for desert racing and all-around riding in SoCal, and the tire is, in every way, exceptional. Wear life in particular is better than any tire I have yet used, and the front traction is among the best, if not the best so far. I'm extremely pleased with them.

I just put on a 756 and it's the usual: great bite when knew, kinda iffy when edges are round. I can get quite a bit of use from the 756 whereas some of my truly fast friends pitch it after a month.

As for the 51 those same friends keep them on quite a bit longer and say the feel and confidence long after the fact is a lot better than the 756 was for them.

I like my 51's, the front shows very little wear after 5 rides, the rear is about as worn as my usual maxis IT desert would be. the one thing that I notice is that the 51 front is eating my seal savers, my last tire didnt touch them, I think it was a D742, oh well

Can't say on the Michelin, but it's much better than a Maxxis, and a far better tire in terms of traction and cornering control.

I have run them on my son's rear (fast novice, 250F). It lasted very well and he didn't complain at all--and he doesn't hold back when he has a complaint! When I went to get a new one they were out. The shop owner and good friend advised me that the Bridgestone 203 wears just as well and has better traction in the softer terrain. We are testing it now and it is holding up well.

I have an MX51 ready to mount on my smoker though. I love the Bridgestone 404's.

The 756 that came on the front of my 2010 450 likes to wash out a bit in the corners. I will soon replace it shortly. I hate to waste money and replace a tire for mediocre performance. Look at a poorly performing tire as a training tool!

I'm running the mx51 on the front and back of my 450 and I'm liking the rear. As for the front it has good traction on the hard pack but in the soft stuff I'm finding it likes to wash out or push wide rather then turn.

The MX51s suck some time.

I ran the 51s for four weekends here in Las Vegas. I was riding several hours Saturday and Sunday while I was marking a race course. The 51s were holding up nice and I thought I found my dream tire. Then I rode with some buddies near my house in a rockier section. Within 45 minutes, I tore every side wall knob, left and right, off the front ... seriously, every single one. My two buddies were riding Maxxis Desert IT and their tires were fine.

Like any tire, you need the right tire for the right condition.

When does the MX71 come out?

Is the MX31 really better in sand/soft and does it last long?

It may be better in softy loam and mud, but from my experience, not in dry sand. The MX51 works much better, as does the D952. Kind of surprising. I had expected the opposite to be true.

If you're laying the bike over and powering through the turns the 51 may tear off the outer tread row. I tore ALL of the right side knobs off of my 31 after 4 rides in soft to moderate type terrain by laying it way over with no support berm for the tire. The nice thing was that the traction was stellar and no berm was needed for it to stick like glue. The bad thing was the short life of the very outer tread row. My 51 has held up better but I'm willing to bet you are laying it over pretty far.

Regardless, 51 is still my favorite tire.

The 31's will tear up in the rocks. The 51 is much tougher.

I have a new set of 51`s on my bike now. After 3 practice days in sand they are still great (not surprising). But last year I had 51 rear tire and after couple of practices on rockier and harder surface the center knobs were starting to crack and eventually 1/4 of them were ripped off. Will see how this sets holds up on more intermediate stuff.

When it comes to tire compounds your hard terain tires are acually softer then your soft terian tires. Hard terain tires they want to flex more so that they grip hard services better. Just like a drag strip tire very soft to grab the hard concret. Soft terain tires they make harder so they dig in better. So when it come to chunking and tearing off nobs you are sometimes more likely to have that problem with a hard terain tire. That is why HT tires usually have shorter and more nobs on the tire. ST have fewer nobs that are taller.
