Nothing technical just a nice ride on the the weekend. Was a little slick and slimy. Most of these trails are tagged intermediate to expert? Not what I would call them but fun anyways. Just thought Id share!!

Beautiful trail vids!! I love it!

I really want to get out there and ride some time. It looks pretty bad ass. How hard of an area is it to get around in with out getting too lost? I have only mountain biked on the island a bit so i have not seen to much of it.

Some of our trail areas around here can be a little confusing, but that particular place, called Tansky is really easy to navigate because the trails are being built by the BCORMA guys and are really well marked. The start of each trail has a little signpost with info on it. There aren't a ton of trails at Tansky yet, but there are definitely enough for a good day of riding. That area is just west of Sooke.

You're supposed to buy a trail pass to ride there, which is I think $30 a year, which makes you a member of BCORMA and supports more trail building. It's a pretty good price really, especially since it goes towards guaranteeing us a place to continue riding. There is also a map of the trails there available when you pay your BCORMA dues. I think the maps may also be available at the local bikeshop, not positive though.

There are a bunch of other areas on the island to ride too. If you ever want to try it out, PM me and I can give you more info on where to go and what to expect. Tansky is the only one that needs the trail pass. (If you go with a friend with a pass, just to 'try out the trails' I think that's ok too)

*gulp* That would be my worst nightmare of a trail! I'm scared of heights, so even watching the video gives me the willies.

It's a different world here. You gotta try it to see the difference. Many say it's not what they expect. Hopefully you can come back and attack some trails .:bonk:   This is at  Kahuku where the soil is even different from different parts of the island. All the trails this day were a bit wet but rideable. I thought this race was nice actually. It was a little slick but it was great compared to what it can be. The special mixture of half wet mud plus the tree fir was locking up my rear wheel harder than a parking brake. This is on my 525. That was just circling around on the starting line. I had to stop and clear out around a 9 inch or more round chunk of clay mud from the top front of the swing arm .(This vid shows someone else doing this at 1:33) . I had to stop a few times to clear out during the race and I was getting a bit worried about burning the clutch a bit as I would have to rev out as the motor was fighting the mud braking at the swing arm. ..a thing very weird when you are going down a steep long downhill. I was thinking there would be overheating too but it was all good . The dirt/mud changes consistency and slickness dramatically with the change of weather /rain wind and the length of rain saturation period. Then it changes dramatically . Weird thing is usually when it is storming the traction is better. You have to come in rainy season where the wet slickness is super slippery...then you have to pick your trails wisely as certain ones are unmakeable... You just know the difference from experience whats the deal....but that's the fun of it all anyway. :foul:

I have to ride on the mainland in a variety of places before I get too old to do it right. Right now I only can figure how it is through the experience of others that tell me.

Yea on one section it looked like a guy was killing mosquitos. Normally most run the bikes a little fat though. It runs a little better in the trails.

Shark Rock @ GPNF.  It was too cold for my cam so it would only record 10 second intervals.

Along with the other two footages, you obviously got good trails out there.... tight uphills with some really narrow mountain passes with cliffs on both sides :foul: ....Is that a Gas Gas 2-stroke or Husky 2-stroke in the vid? :D

That hill in the "hill fail" i saw in your vimeo is similar to the hills in my place :bonk:

Keep posting more man!
