06 ignition on an 09, anyone try it ?

Just like the title reads, has anyone put an '06 ignition on their '09 and if you did - was there any noticeable difference in power delivery ? What I'm wondering, is if the $$ a used '06 ignition will cost you is worth it ?

'09 part # 34P-85540-00-00
'08 part # 2S2-85540-B0-00
'07 part # 2S2-85540-70-00
'06 part # 2S2-85540-00-00

I've got an '06 header with a Pro-Circuit T4 slip-on for my bike, I've heard that the '06 ignition might put a little more power out in the mid-range. I'm assuming the ign. timing is the difference between the two, and wondering if it's worth the bother.

Tried it on an 07 and 09. I have the 06 cdi and 06 cams in my 09. Also running my FMF fron my 06 on the 09. Runs like a 06 becuz it is when you do this. tried just the cdi first and it was very ggod but better with both. Did my sons 07 with cdi and them with cams. Then we tried just the cams in the 07 and he liked it better. Just a little less bottom end with just cams. If you can get the 06 box for $40 BUY IT!!!!! Ther $300 new.

Thanks for letting me know, I don't have the cams but I'll try the cdi and see what the difference is.

Should receive my 06 cdi today.
I have 2 09 yz450's to try it on.
#1 Dr D. Pipe stock carb with a 48 pilot, 1 clip richer on needle and a 168 main.
#2 Dr D. Pipe and an Edelbrock carb.
Both have stock cams.
Stand by , lots of rain here in California.

Tried the 06 cdi in #2 09 bike. Felt snappier off idle. Seems like it will be pretty manageable. Had son in law ride it without knowing what cdi was in bike. He also thought the 06 cdi gave it more snap off idle but said it felt like it didn't rev as much. Possibly getting through the rpm's faster due to more low end power. Don't know if the 06 cdi revs out to a lower max rpm or not. I noticed that with the 06 cdi it would bring up the front end easier when trying at a lower rpm. This was a quick test on flat moist hard packed sandy ground. Still need to do some more real world testing on trails and a track.

The 06. cdi in my 09 will probably be the right combo for me. More off idle hit but manageable. I ride mostly single track and the extra grunt down low is just what I wanted. Time will tell though I'll keep my findings posted.

I installed the 06 CDI on my 09 but I havent ridden it yet. I am headed to the track on Sunday and will give my impression then. I plan on running the two back to back for a comparison.

Just in case anyone is interested, I got my 06 CDI off ebay for $40. Adrenaline Cycles...maybe they have more? Some guy PM'd me offering one for $150. You can find them much cheaper.

I just snagged one off the same ebay seller, figured given the positive comments so far it's worth the $52 w/shipping. If I end up not liking it, it can go back on ebay. My bike is an 08, so results should be similar to the 09's. Never considered swapping the cams to 06 cams, so I'm thinking that using the 06 CDI and later adding some flywheel weight things should turn out nice.

Why a flywheel weight? Defeatng the purpose of installing the 06 cdi.

Depends on how much he puts on there. I have the GYT-R offroad version (adds 7 ounces) it added bottom end to the bike and didn't take away anything from the mid all the way up to the top. Do you really believe that a 7 oz FWW will really slow down a 50hp motor that much? Don't knock it til you try it. . .

Yea it does slow it down when on the gas. That's why it feels more trackable. It may help stalling in corners, but spend the money on a Rekluse auto clutch to prevent the stalling.
There is a reason all manufactures install a very light flywheel on the motocross version of the bikes. Revs out faster due to less inertia.
I installed a -6 oz. Flywheel on my kids yfz 450 quad. Everyone that rides it can't believe it's that fast with the stock pipe.

Okay well you obviously don't know that the quad comes from the factory with a way heavier FWW than a YZf so you can't even compare the two.

As far as the FWW on the YZf's there is a difference in slowing the motor down for traction and allowing it to rev to the moon without any.

Yes I do know that the quad comes with a heavy flywheel, that's why I installed a lighter one to make it rev faster and all with great traction.

My point was that the 06 hits harder at low rpm's thus making the motor rev faster through the entire rpm range. Installing a heavier flywheel weight with be counter productive.
But hey, do what u think is right for u.

Don't knock it till u try? Sounds like u r making judgement on speculation and not facts.
And yes, 7 ounce of flywheel weight will slow down how fast the motor will accelerate! How do I know? From first hand experience, something that u even admit not to have.

I'll admit not to have any first hand experience either way, however, it has been reported by other members here that the heavier flywheel only enhances the bike's power delivery and doesn't have any obvious ill effects. That's what I've seen mentioned here, that's all I know. My bike is used 99% off road, which leads me to think that that's the setup that would be beneficial for my situation.

When did I say I don't have first hand experience? I have an 08 with the FWW on it. . .get a grip dude its just friendly conversation, but if you wanna get all mad because you tried to compare a YFZ450 to a YZ450f which is a very diffferent engine then more power to ya.

BTW have you tried the ignition or FWW? Sounds to me like YOU are the one without first hand experience.

This is exactly my point and I am not the only one with this view, I know Grayracer shares the same view on the subject with these bikes and the GYT-r Offroad FWW.
