New shootout coming soon  . Getting ready to fit a 265 kit so did a quick baseline run this evening on the 250 to see what the bike has at present. I only rebuilt it a few bike hours ago and spent time getting the powervalves set-up nicely which obviously paid off. Really nice curve and a peak of 50.8 at the wheel (2c pipe, vhm head, radvalve, HPI ignition). The peak number is a little irrelevant as it just gives us a comparison when doing the next set-up. This time will be trying a few pipes on the 265 including the usual DEP, FMF factory fatty, PC works, and HGS. My mate is an absolute god on engine tuning and has coaxed over 50 out of his KTM200 with huge amount of mods. Hopefully will get him to publish something one day. We only did  a simple set of 5 runs on mine and no set-up. The 265 will get a solid fettling.

Awesome, can't wait.
What silencers have you got?

Finished building 265 yesterday, spent ages getting the powervalve set up just right. I wonder how many people have worn ramps and sub valves that hang partially open. So easy to miss.
Still got the same pipes and silencers as before and now an hgs pipe and long hgs silencer, also a bud Kevlar shorter one. It ran well yesterday with a quick blast round the field (running in). Need too put a little more time on it before back to dyno for pipe swapping and tuning.

Procircuit works with the std 304 produced more than stock through the range but signs off slightly sooner up top. Seat of the pants says the opposite as it feels like a top end screamer. I never dyno'd the shorty. I had one but sold it, never felt it offered anything but more noise and lost revs. That was only my impression. On the track though. Try each and see what you
Like best. I always found the stock pipe a bit lacking in character, it is as designed a great all rounder.

Hopefully some time near the end of this week. Wanted to ride today to get some time on the engine but it was rained off. Need to get a decent baseline on jetting as it was surging when hot when I took it out the other night. Have richened up the pilot to a 52 and 180 on main to see if that does it. Hope so, then can go dyno knowing it won't melt. This weekend is now house maintenance and a bit of wakeboarding with any luck.

Looking forward to this as im dumping my 08 YZ450F as its getting near rebuild time and cant justify spending almost 2k on top and bottom end when i can pick up a YZ250, put on Bigbore and that will be my new supermoto only bike. I probably put on 30 hrs a year riding sumo on the 450 so i cant justfy 2k on rebuilds when i can get a yz250 for 150 - put 1k into it and rebuilds are 300-500 every 2 years + the 250 is what 25lbs lighter.

Struggling chasing a surge at low throttle openings and the over run. Need to sort that and get it close before going near the dyno. Tried a few jets and needle positions but no improvement. Going to swap the number 8 slide back to a 7 and see if that helps. If not i may have to get another head insert cut and try that. Tried ignition timing too but no joy :( . Will get it sussed properly and then let the tweaking begin. Got to solidly beat the last 50.8hp reading and all through the range.

Going back to a #7 slide has done the trick in conjunction with a fat pilot jet. Running much better but still more too come when I get stuck into leaning the other circuits back out. Takes a few moments for the top end to clear sometimes so reckon main needs to reduce. Once I get on the dyno will start another thread and see how we go :-).

Hi Stimps, l know the popularity of the 8 slide, but l could never get it to work, (100" -1000"), not on the 250 or the 300's l,ve done.  They seem lean at 1/8 throttle anyway and then comes along the 8 slide.

Look forward to the testing results

Can't get the darn thing to run clean at the moment. It's now stuttering running from mid to top end. Tried main jets from 165 to 185 but it still does it. Had a puncture so spat my dummy out and went home. Got loads on with house and a few other things at the moment so time not been easy to find. Will get there....promise.

don't forget about the Power Jet. May be making you rich at times. My big bore dropped mine from 45 to 40.
