Front Wheel Bearings Brand

Which brand is better or should I just go to my local bearing house and pick some up? The ones below I have access to from my distributor.


Front Wheel Bearing Kit

First two are kits including wheel seals, are these all chinese?

MSR - Kit

Pivot Works - Kit

ALL Balls - bought by the each

i've used all balls before for my xr and they were good, also they give you a cool sticker for the tool box

MSR uses All Balls bearings and All Balls are good bearing's IMO.

I haven't had very good experiences with Pivot Works and they cost more to boot.

If money is no object then go for one of those over-priced kits available through bike accessory retailers.

If you want to save money then take your old bearings to your local bearing shop and get them to match them. I've found they are usually less than half of the kit bearings cost. This is quite a saving!
I do this very time I need bike bearings.
Been doing it for almost 30 years now.

My 2 cents!

If you really want to get crazy search old posts I remember way back someone took the OE front Wheel Bearings down to the local Bearing shop and got sealed bearings to fit. You should still lube up the outside of the bearings but they should last a lot longer. I think the old thread provided bearing numbers.

Yes, I did search the old post last night and able to retrieve what I think are the bearing numbers & kit numbers. Now was the time for purchase

The research I did turned up this

This is what I have normally do also Greg, calling local now. I just thought a kit would make it easier, this was of before I knew the numbers. If any of the kits are good I still might do that as I can get a good deal on them.

Just off the phone with a local bearing place, Consolidated Bearing are 75.00 each, I asked did he have the right number. Those I cannot afford and the seals he could not get, I think he can he just did not look hard enough.

I think you are right! He may have been trying to price identical bearings (ie. same brand/ number etc.)

All I do is measure the size I'm after (OD, ID, width) and go and buy off the shelf items which are often sealed.
Sometimes I just take the old bearings into the shop and ask them what they have to replace them.

Brand is of no consequence in dirt bike wheels, almost anything will do as long as it's not really cheap/nasty chinese bearings or something!

I don't recall ever paying more than about $10 for a single wheel bearing in any bike I've ever owned that needed them. (I'm talking up around 50-60 bikes in my time, probably done wheel bearings in 30+ of them).

The seals are easily prized out and put back in if you need to re-grease the bearing. The seals also provide an extra barrier to dust/water. Additional drag is only an issue in top level roadracing machines.

Internal clearances/tolerances are not really much of an issue in dirt bike wheels so I'm never too worried about that.
Crank bearings definately yes, but not in wheels.

Others will have differing opinions I'm sure, but this has worked for me for many, many years. Never had a problem yet.

the price of the bearings depends a lot if they are "standard" size type or if they are special japanese parts.
Here in Germany I safed a lot of money on bearings at my local bearings dealer compared to the price at the Motobike Dealers for my wifes BETA RR (same bearings as KTM).
But Yamaha has used some bearings which are not (european) standard size (rear wheel 60/22 and 62/22) - they are really expensive here.

Herefor I chose the Allballs kit as well. It comes with bearings & seals, so the price is reasonable.

The MSR Bearing Kit came with KML bearings, it will be better than what I have now anyway.

I think the guy who called his supplier looked at the wrong line and quoted the wrong price, better brand of bearings are probably more in line at 15.00 each.

I bought a bunch of the 6904-2RS bearings off ebay a while ago. I think they were less than $2 each.:ride: Koyo or NTN are really good, but these aren't bad.
