Mods to my 2000 XR400 are:

Dunlop 756 front tire @ 12psi
Acerbis front disk/fork guard
Forks raised 15mm above the top clamp
Race Tech .48 fork springs with 15mm of pre-load and 100mm oil level
Trail Tech computer w/magnet pressed into place
Renthal Jimmy Button high bars
Renthal Pro-grips
Acerbis Rally hand guards with spoilers
Scott’s weld on stabilizer
IMS 4 gallon tank
IMS Pro Pegs
Moose rear fender tool bag
Front fender tube holder
Heavy duty tubes front and rear
White Bros skid plate
DID Gold X-ring chain
Maxxis IT rear tire @ 12psi
Scott’s rear shark fin
Snorkel removed
Stock exhaust with 3, 1/4 “ holes in end cap and 92db
Header welds ground out
162 MJ, 60 PJ, A16A needle in 3rd position and 9BC slide
Fuel screw 2 ¼ turns out
Mounting screw for throttle cables on carb stripped out, drilled and tapped to 6mm
Smog canister removed and vent run to air box
Baja Designs Dual Sport Kit
Stock rear spring with 105mm of sag and custom rear valving (myself)
Resister removal mod on sparkplug cap
Iridium IX24 sparkplug
UNI air filter
Dual-Star mirrors
Both magnetic drain plugs

2001 XR400
41 y/o male 6'2" 185#
West Texas caprock +/-3000ft.
Rock, sand, hardpack (sometimes all at the same time), creek beds (dry mostly), cow trails, oil field roads, cut trails, cactus, mesquite, other pokey things to impale tires and skin.

Mods.
-Dog chewed on front fender
-Barrel and fender bags
-Maier Hand guards to protect my levers.  They also (sometimes) help to keep the pokey things from hitting my hands.
-MSR cheap clutch and brake levers (see above)
-Pirelli MT32 rear tire
-Patched back tube w/goop (see pokey things above)
-First aid kit (see pokey things above)
-Custom UV baked graphics

I noticed a lot of the heavier guys (220+) have only upgraded the front springs and not the back?  Why's that?  Also, for those who have upgraded, would you mind editing your posts to include the spring rate for your rear shock.  Thanks.

1. 6'0 215# 45 years old

2. The best unrestricted riding in the US.....Mountains of Southern West Virginia. Everything from logging roads to tight, rocky hillclimbs to deep mud holes. And of course lots of cow/deer trails in the woods.

3. Elevation from 500-2000 feet

4. Only mod so far is the Moose skid plate. (not installed yet) Will do Gordon's mods this summer.

39 years young, happily married, well maintained, 5' 8" tall, 155 lbs with no gear.  Second owner of a well maintained '99 XR400 for me and first owner of an '04 CRF100F for my 12 year old son.

We ride in the desert southwest.  Impromtu MX, trails, hills, jumps, lot's o dust.  Variety of surfaces including sand covered hard pack, intermediate dirt, sand and DEEP sand.

We ride at 5,300 ft elevation with low humidity.  We ride almost year round with temps vary from mid 40,s to upper 90's.

Mods:
Dunlop 756 front and rear tires
HD Tubes front and rear
Plastic cleaned up with Plastic Renew
14T front sprocket
Cheap Moose brake and clutch levers
OEM Hand grips
0.43 kg/mm Eibach fork springs
9.0 kg/mm Race Tech shock spring (From the TT Store)
Shock shim stack nicely "adjusted" by my local Honda mechanic
XR's Only oil temp dip stick
Honda 20W-50 75% Synthetic Oil
Stainless socket head cap screw hardware throughout the carb
Fully Gordon'ed
-  Uni filter and cage
-  Snorkle removed
-  55/155 jetting (equivalent to 62/162 at sea level)
-  Needle in 3rd position
-  Fuel screw 2 to 2.5 turns out
-  Header weld ground nearly flush
-  Magnum-Krizman Spark Arrestor Tip (From the TT Store)

As well as all of the safety gear listed below, and then some.

Smartest thing to do after all of that $$$$ and making that bike a "killer"!

Get some protective wear!  Chest Protector, Knee pads, Elbow pads, and Eye protection.  And invest in some GOOD BOOTS!
