Hey guys,, thnaks for all the input into pricing for an 09 YZ450. Now I am looking at the things that would make it woods friendly for the east coast. I know the Rekluse is highly favored, so it is on the list. Let's have some opinions about the different flywheel weights and who sells them.

I've always had good luck with Steahly; I tend to do better with the lighter fww. Had a heavy one on a CRF450 once, geared down also, and I could not get it to puke out! But it revved a tad slower. I know that's not an apples-apples comparison to the 09 yz450f, but....still go for the lighter.

I have an 09 and ride eastern woods. I have the +9 ounce Steahly in my bike and would not even consider the lighter flywheels. I cannot tell one bit of loss of snap, period. But the low end torque is much improved. Stalling is reduced tremendously. Before the FWW I was soo pissed that even with near perfect clutchwork I was stalling way too often going over tough logs or big rocks and stuff. The fww has virtually eliminated that problem. Then I went up a tooth on the rear sprocket, and found that to be a great improvement for my riding style, I don't like to abuse the clutch all the time. Also it helped split the gears up a little so that now I am running a gear higher than before and the motor is slowed down and "off the pipe" a little, which makes me faster because twitchiness is reduced and the bike hooks up better. Plus when the going gets really slow you can creep and crawl without constant clutchwork. Also get yourself some good radiator cages, a skid plate, bark busters, and an hour meter ASAP to accurately track maintenance. I hope that you enjoy your bike as much as I love mine.

Get the Rekluse first... I doubt you'll want a FWW after the auto-clutch.

i have my 06 yz 450 set up for jus woods heres what i got..

18inch rear tire ( a must in my book now)

cyra bark busters

heavy duty skidplate

o ring chain.

big gas tank ( only use it sometimes)

i really havent had the use for a rekluse on my 450 and i rip the hell out of the woods.. you just need a clutch that can take the abuse and thats why i got a full hinson.

Why is the 18 a must? I run 120 90 19 rears and they give pretty good rim protection without changing the wheel.

thats what i was always running a untill i bought a 18.. it really does make a world of differnence.. you can run a little lower airpressure, theres a way better selection of tires for woods runners. and it just handles better in the woods. over roots rocks or anthing.. plus its a lot harder to get flats..

I don't know off the top of my head what Steahly is offering as far as weights go, but IMO, there's no point in buying the lighter GYT-R flywheel. I use the 9 ounce "off-road" flywheel on my '06, and again, IMO, it's what the bike should have come with: increased smoothness at low rpm, increased stall resistance (not stall proof, just better), increased low rpm power (yes, really), increased traction under power, and no apparent loss of power or quickness at any rpm range.

Ill throw my 2 cents in here too, i got the steahly +10oz on my '05 and thought it was great. What Grayracer said above is pretty much exactly how i feel about it too.

And if i could do it again i wouldnt get anything lighter

I totally agree with you Gray I love my GYTR offroad FWW on my 08 it gave it more bark off the bottom and it still pulls forever up top. I used to ride my 04 basically on the rev limiter the whole time and now with my 08 and FWW I don't know if I have ever hit the limiter. Works great!
