So i know that there are a bunch of threads already about the bbr frame cradle for the dr-z 125 and right now procycle.com is the only sight that i know that carries it so i have a few questions

1. Does anyone know if the one on procycle.com will fit an 08 drz 125
2. I need an unbiased opinion of is it even really worth $200 if all i really ride is grassy/muddy farmland and never jump the bike ever? i know the bike already has the stock plastic one so should that be enough for what i do?

Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hmm what year is your bike mines an 08 im wondering if it will fit an 08, also how long ago did you order yours? did you order online or call them? and lastly was it relatively easy to install?

Thanks,

If you NEVER jump your bike, its not worth the money.  That plastic plate is the only thing that is keeping the lower portion of your bike together.  If you are hitting large "G" outs or jumping than its invaluable.  It is very easy to install, its basicly plug and play.  But if the bike never leaves the ground, and/or is basicly a street bike in the mud and grass, save your money. IMO...Hope this helps

The only time my bike leaves the ground is if i go off this tiny little bump in the land that i ride on and when i say leave the ground i mean my tires dont even come off the ground more than a foot if that haha im not a very extreme rider i just like to get the bike dirty so if thats what i consider jumping would that put my bike in risk without the skid plate or should i still be ok with just the stock plastic one? i really appreciate the answers i've been getting thank you

Has anybody found a place that still has bbr frame cradles in stock? I've been looking for months and can't find one anywhere.

I've tried to find one also without success.  I tried several distributors and they all indicated that they were sold out and that BBR was no longer producing them.  BBR thought they might have a blem lying around for me but it was not to be. Maybe if enough of us contact them they might feel there is enough of a market to make production worth their while.

I don't usually ride too agressively but I don't like feeling like I might have to baby the bike so I'd like to have the cradle.  I don't really understand why the minis, particularly those over 100 or 125ccs don't have full frames. What advantage is there in the stress-engine frames-a little weight savings for the spec sheet?

I agree with jnibal that maybe a bunch of us should contact bbr and see if maybe we could get the ball rolling or something.  What i dont really understand at all is why are there no parts out there made for 4-stroke trail bikes? what makes 2-strokes so much more special that companies only make after market parts for them?  By parts i mean things other than stock factory replacement parts. for example all the carbon fiber replacements for pieces of the bike, or aluminum skid plates, or something as simple as graphics kits.

Now i realize that you can buy replacement shock springs from bbr, and that decalworks.com is a good place to get custom bike graphics, and that there are a handful of full exhaust systems but i just feel after market parts for 4-strokes are far and few between when compared to 2-strokes and i dont understand why that is when it seems to me like 4-strokes are more popular bikes among the public because of how cheap they are in comparison to 2-strokes.

i apologize for the rant but its a subject that really frustrates me

When I built up my 190 project I found that there was a lot of info out there on modding the DRZ125, rims from BBR, rear shock from Works Performance, all sorts of goodies from ProCycle, a number of differnt companies do decals, 3+ companies do engine mods, 3 + companies do exhausts .... and then lots of options for swapping race spec parts with the 85 2 stroke minis.  More than enough to keep me busy!

However I do agree that the absence of a frame cradle is a problem.  I do however have the CAD, lazer cutting and welding facilities to make them up to match the spec of the BBR item.  If there are 10 of you out there that want one let's get a list together and when I have 10 names I will do te CAD drawings and get it organised.

I'm trying to buy one now via classifieds, but lately none of those work out. So pencil me in. I'll let you know when that deal doesn't work out.

If you are able to make a bolt-on for around the cost of the BBR unit, count me in.
Thanks for the offer!

you can probably count me in depending on how much you'd want and if it fits right haha. and i know that there are other resources out there to really mod up your bike but i just don't think they're as easily available to people who own 4-strokes as they are to 2-stroke owners is all and there's certainly not as much

Ok .. that's encouraging 3 enquiries within a few days. Looks like we'll make 10 so I'll start getting my head around the CAD drawings.  I'm pretty experienced at fabricating this sort of thing.  It will be a perfect fit and price will be same or less than BBR.  Probably do just one color so those who are interested let me know what color you'd like and I'll go with the majority.  BBR did gold anodized or black powder coat.  I could do a metallic black to match the frame ... over to you guys :ride:

I don't have a preference for color, but please don't do yellow. We have one of the from the factory blue DR-Zs and yellow would be kinda gaudy, even on a Suzuki yellow bike. Plus, you might get a few KLX buyers who would be in the same situation.
Black, gold, silver, flat metallic (looks like brushed aluminum) would be good. I guess that means I do have a preference for color, just not a very precise preference.
Oh, and as expected, the classifieds deal didn't work out, so I'm in.
How much harder would it be to plan for a skid plate? Not necessarily one that's welded on, but one that could be fabricated and bolted on later?

I have a KLX and I think the frame color might be the same as the DRZs-kind of a dark gray (charcoal) metalic. Something close to that would be good for me or black would be alright too. :ride:

I think that is 4 .... :ride:

Not quite sure what you mean by skid plate ... the BBR frame cradle has a skid plate incorporated in it with a hole cut out for access the engine drain plug.

The one I'll make will be just like the BBR one so will include the skid plate.

Keep those order coming  :ride:

Perfect. I've only seen photos of them installed and no one takes photos from the bottom up, so I didn't know.
