Just trying to find out what size (approx) shims come in the bike stock for the valves. I am doing a rebuild on one and the shims that are in it now are around .178 exhaust and around .170 intake. I am assuming this bike has steel valves as well. Looking at the valves from the cylinder side they dont appear to be sunk into the head like they are worn either. Any input is greatly appreciated. :moon:

Ha ha I also need the torque specs for the head bolts and I am assuming the camshaft caps are 7.2 ftlbs but want that info as well before I go assuming. Again thanks for any help.

Cant find the manual anywhere?

On my 05 it is 10 nm for the cam caps which i think is 7.3ftlbs. Doesnt help if it isnt the same bike. Best to source a manual and make sure

Get a manual here:

OEM shims should be in the general range between 175-190, but there is no particular fixed size.

If the head is off I would just pop the valves out and look at the faces to get an idea of how worn they are. It only takes a second to pop them out, and it is pretty obvious if they are well worn. All of the shims from the factory I've seen have been between 175 and 190.

Edit: You beat me to it Gray.

Thanks KJ. I did pull the valves and they arent looking worn. I just wondering if the seats had been cut once already. As for the manual no I dont own manuals for all the bikes I work on and would probably go broke if I did. As for the link its not working for me but it may be my computer :moon:.
