For whatever reason my turn signals decided to stop working today. The lights still light up but do not blink (just a solid light). Anyone have an idea what this could be?

I'd start with the flasher...or a burnt out bulb.

Do all the signal lights light up when you hit the switch?

Does it not flash on both sides?

Then most likely the flasher died. Easy to replace (straight plug in item, usually in the fuse panel) costs under $10.

The signal lights light up when I hit the switch, it does not flash on either side. The flasher sounds right (I don't have much car knowledge...just all the electronics that bikes don't have is what gets me). Thank you very much though, I'll check that out tomorrow and take a ride up to ford for a new part.

You can get it at any auto parts store for about 1/4th the price as the dealer....and probably the same manufacturer.

Turning on your hazards will confirm the integrity of the bulbs and circuits to the bulbs. It works off a different flasher then the turn signals.

I've seen more unusual things then two bulbs popping at once. Most likely a flasher, but just saying...

Most newer vehicles only use one flasher - it runs the 4-ways and the turn signals.

Like mentioned above, just go to any auto parts store and get it.

The turn signals still don't work (they were sort of flickering-it was weak though) but the hazards work as good as ever. So it looks like I'm going to get a flasher for the turn signals, right?

I cant say Ive seen flashers on any new vehicles for years its all electronic now and has been for some time.

Based on how the flasher operates, the hazard flasher must be seperate from the turn signal flasher.

There is a heat sensitive thin strip of metal inside the flasher, when put under a load it, heats up and flexes out of the way, cools off and flexes back connecting the circuit again. This is how the blinking of the turn signals works. When one bulb burns out in the circuit, theres less load/amps and it takes much longer to heat up, causeing slow blinking or no blinking sometimes. Add more bulb into the equation like a trailer and it will cause it to blink much faster. These old flashers were pretty sesitive to change. The hazard flashers are calibrated a little heavier, because they are operating more bulbs, it would flash way faster then the turn signals if you used the same duty flasher.

But those havent been used a long time. Turn signal flashing has been integrated into a module. Thats why they blink faster when they burn out a bulb now, not slower, its all the strategy of the module. There was some years of f-150 that used a single electronic flasher, that you had to replace both together as one, but they still functioned seperately in the circuit

But yes, original poster, you probly need a flasher. I got a little long and drawn out
