Hey guys,

Has anyone done any research into how much room there is in the back seat area of the last generation F150 Supercab vs Silverado extended cab?

I want a crew cab, but just can't afford the extra $2k or so premium, so am trying to figure out which one has more rear seat room. My preference is to get a F150, but really the best condition, lowest mileage one in my price will do.

Either would be fine, unless of course one or the other has a significantly smaller back seat area.

Btw, the back seat would rarely be used other then to haul gear. Occasionally stuffing a couple of kids back there.

For model years, I'd prefer a '07 - '09, so if anyone knows about those years specifically, I'd really appreciate the feedback.

Thanks,

Ed

ps: I know, I know, buy the crew, but its unlikely to happen.

I'm not too sure about the depth behind the front seats (if that's what you were inquiring about), but I know for a fact that the Ford's rear seats take up less room when folded and the floor is flat.

Cool. I was actually wondering how much room there would be back there for passengers, like for the occasional drive with the two kids (tall 11 & 12 year olds).

Gear stowage is also a factor, so good to know. Or, I guess I could fold the seat up and just throw the kids back there on the floor if they complain about a lack of leg room.

Thanks!

You will have much more room with a Crew Cab vs. a extended cab.

In 2009, ford actually got rid of the "hump" in the back floor and added 6 inches of leg room to the rear seat for the supercab model. I have an 05 super cab which is the same as the 06, 07, 08... If you are jus putting kids back there you'll have room, and the seats fold up and thats where i put all my gear its great. And they are a 80/20 split so you can even put your gear back there and have a seat, or two for people.

Believe me, I want a crew cab, but considering the extra cost, I think I'll better off with the extended cab as I'll be able to get a lower mileage one at a cheaper price vs. a comparable crew cab.

Not to mention, 99% of the time it will just be me cruising around in it.

And I know, I know, when you need the crew cab, you need it.

Sometimes ya gotta settle and upgrade down the road when times are better.

For a couple of kids, either truck will have plenty of room back there...

My own truck is a Extra cab because I wanted the 6-1/2 ft bed...

I have had experience with a 05 F150 ext cab. As well as numerous Chevrolet 1500 ext cabs. Both will suit your needs fine. I clearly remember sitting in the back of the ford with 2 of my buddies on our way to ride. But I cant quite remember riding with 2 other people in the Chevy. Maybe thats a good thing, not sure. But they both have plenty of room for what you need. Just drive each one and see what you like more.

I have an 07 Silverado with the extra cab and my dad can ride in the back seat no problem and he is 6foot tall. I am not a Ford vs. Chevy guy but the deciding factor for me was the seats in the Silverado where more comfortable than the Ford and both are good products.

Thanks, I appreciate the input.

I've been used truck shopping, went to 4 different dealerships over the last two weekends, what a nightmare. Haven't found a rig yet.

I know this is probably no help but just wanted to let you know my experience with an extended cab. I have a 2001 dodge ram quad cab (extended, mind you not a ford or chevy but still an extended cab). If im driving all my friends around we have put 3 people in the back and I think they fit just fine, and they are 16 and 17 years old; about 6 foot etc. When we go riding I just toss my gear bag on the back, when my mom wanted to watch my friend and I ride at the track my friend sat in the back seat along with 2 of the large gear bags and he was fine.

The point to my long post is any extended cab will do you fine, chose the one that is more comfortable for you and is the best mechanically.

Just another thing to consider you can still go a bit older and get a crewcab for cheaper, im thinking the 01-04 ford 150 supercrews, very nice rides. My friend got a lariat, with aftermarket speakers/amp/2 10inch subs, pioneer touchscreen, magnaflow exhaust, 6 inch fabtech lift on 35's for I think 15,000 and thats with all those mods. Its a really nice ride with a ton of room.

Edit: the f150 was bought with 70,000 miles.

It's a big help, good to know. I'm still on the fence on this one, extended vs. crew. Thanks.

I found a '07 F150 XLT crew 26k miles that I think I'm going to pull the trigger on. The extended back seat area just looks to small to me.

They're a little cramped for anyone thats over 5'6" or people with long legs. My Dakota is smaller, but being a 4 door Quad Cab, it has much more rear seating room than a full size ext cab truck.

I was lookin at full size extended cab trucks, mostly the Titans around the 04 to 06 year models before I got the Dodge, then one day I just said "you know what? Theres no need for me to have a full size truck".

Update: I bought the '07 F150 Crewcab and glad I did. Excellent shape, 26k miles. 3 mths of bumper to bumper warranty left (or 36k), got a few years of the 5 yr/100k drivetrain, and also have 3 years left on roadside assistance.

I am loving this thing. My old '96 Silverado 5 sp manual was pressed into daily driver mode last spring and it was a drag driving that old thing around.

I can't believe what a difference it makes to drive something newer.

Crew cab also is working out great. I spent a bit more, but it was the right decision. Been piling kids and family in it since I got it. Makes life a lot easier, and everyone is happy.

Some pics from the dealer ad, looks exactly like the pics, 'cept a bit dirtier now.
