Can't really give you a comparison between the two as I have zero experience with the 'doos.

The Polaris will out perform the doo head to head the ZX chassis is a tad heavier and those early 800 doo motors were a little light on power, but yes there were some problems with the cranks on the polaris.
That said, How many miles are on each and how well were they taken care of? Has the Polaris had any work done to the crank already? and if so by whom? There are ways to make that crank hold up, the biggest of which is properly balancing the clutch and maintaining it, alignment makes a big difference as well. Torque stops and a crank case reinforcement plate will help too. Best hands down is an Indy Specialties Torquemaster crank but not cheap.

Look around, you should be able to find an updated sled for just a hair more in the cost dept. Both handle about the same in my experience as the chassis and suspension aren't to far off from each other. For example, trailing arms.
Either sled is a decent starter sled, IMO.
